Exclusive: Boston To Host Groundbreaking Cannabis Science And Policy Forum, Bridging The Gap Between Medicine, Science And Business

Boston, Massachusetts is set to become an epicenter for the medical cannabis world as it hosts the innovative Cannabis Science + Policy Forum on June 16, 2023. The inaugural event, organized by Maryland-based company CannabizMD, aims to unite New England physicians, advanced practice providers, and medical cannabis industry professionals in a dialogue centered around the therapeutic use of medical cannabis and relevant regulatory issues.

The day-long event promises to be a vibrant hub of knowledge-sharing and discussion, featuring prominent figures in the field. Jordan Tishler, M.D., a Cambridge-based internist with over 20 years of experience, and Harvard Medicine affiliate, is set to deliver a keynote presentation. Following his presentation, a roundtable discussion will be moderated by medical cannabis experts, including Peter Grinspoon, M.D., also affiliated with Harvard Medicine.

Dr. Tishler, who spoke at the September 2022 CannabizMD Forum, praised the professionalism and utility of the event. "CannabizMD is really bridging the gap between science, medicine, and business. The caliber of the other speakers was impressive and the topics truly useful,” he said.

Having witnessed firsthand the adverse effects of alcohol and drugs in his patients, yet never a cannabis overdose, Dr. Tishler's interest in cannabis safety and treatment was piqued. Now, as President of the Association of Cannabis Specialists, he is committed to educating clinicians, lawmakers, and the industry about best practices for patient care.

The forum's theme underscores the emerging and evolving role of patient care within the medical cannabis sphere. It presents an invaluable opportunity for thought leaders to gather and share the latest developments from both existing and emerging U.S. cannabis markets.

“Massachusetts delivers the opportunity to host in a market with historical context as a more mature market on the East Coast, with both a medical and adult-use market,” said Jacquie Cohen Roth, MS, Founder of CannabizMD.

Cohen Roth highlighted the growing importance of cannabis education in the face of the expanding reach of medical cannabis. “There are 6 million certified medical cannabis patients across the United States now, and if you include the adult-use and illicit market — 100 percent of America has access to cannabis in some form. And meanwhile, less than 9 percent of medical schools in the U.S. include cannabis education in their curriculum. So, there is a void that we are focused on helping fill,” she noted.

The forum will be held at the Boston Seaport offices of Foley Hoag from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, and will also be available online via Zoom. The evening will feature a fundraising event for Tea Pad, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing women and BIPOC in cannabis STEM, from 5 pm to 8 pm.

Kevin Conroy, Partner at Foley Hoag LLP, expressed his firm's enthusiasm for hosting the event. “We are especially pleased to support Tea Pad in its mission to break barriers to entry that exist within the cannabis industry for women and people of color. This is a stellar event, at such a special time, where more and more patients and providers are looking for new solutions, naturopathically and organically,” he said.
