Nvidia's Jensen Huang Eyes India's AI Future In High-Level Meeting With Prime Minister Modi

Nvidia Corp.'s NVDA CEO Jensen Huang was in the Indian capital, New Delhi, and met with the country's Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the latter's residence.

What Happened: “Had an excellent meeting with Mr. Jensen Huang, the CEO of @nvidia,” Modi said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday.

“We talked at length about the rich potential India offers in the world of AI,” he added. Modi also said the Nvidia CEO was appreciative of the strides India has made in tech and was equally upbeat about the talented youth of India.

Santa Clara, California-based Nvidia has been riding high on the AI momentum. The company recently reported second-quarter results that exceeded the most optimistic projections and also issued upbeat guidance.

Nvidia's latest A100 AI chip, powered by the Ampere architecture, is widely used for training ChatGPT and other large-language models.

Why It’s Important: Commenting on Huang’s India visit, Nvidia said in a blog, “The event marks the second meeting between Modi and Huang, highlighting NVIDIA's role in the country's fast-growing technology industry.”

Huang also met with researchers from elite institutions, such as the Indian Institute of Science and the various campuses of the Indian Institute of Technology, for an informal dinner. The discussions revolved around the use of technology to address language barriers, improve agriculture yields, bridge gaps in health care services and transform digital economies, among other things.

The attendees were some of the top minds in fields as diverse as large language models, astrophysics, medicine, quantum computing, and natural language processing, the company said.

Nvidia began its India operations in 2004 in the southern city of Bangalore, and it now has four engineering development centers in India. Apart from employing over 3,800 people in India, the company has more than 320,000 India-based developers in its developer program.

Nvidia ended Friday’s session down 1.71% at $485.09, according to Benzinga Pro data.
