The 2024 presidential election could end up being a rematch of the 2020 election race, which saw voters choose between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, an election that Biden ultimately won.

A weekly poll showed a potential matchup between the two past presidents is even among voters ahead of the 2024 election.

What Happened: President Biden has been the favorite to win the Democratic Party nomination in the 2024 election for many months.

With Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announcing he would no longer run as a Democratic candidate, Biden's lead will most likely grow ahead of the primary.

There remained some worry that Kennedy Jr. running as a third-party candidate could take potential votes away from both Biden and Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

If Biden wins the Democratic nomination, he will likely face off against Trump in the general election. Trump has been dominant over Republican candidates and in a recent poll has a 48-point lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The weekly Morning Consult poll asked registered voters who they would select in hypothetical election matchups of Trump vs. Biden and Biden vs. DeSantis.

In this week's poll, Biden received 43% of the vote and Trump received 43% of the vote, resulting in a tie between the two most likely 2024 election candidates. The remaining voters said they would vote for someone else or were unsure who they would vote for.

This marked back-to-back ties between Biden and Trump in the poll.

In a matchup between Biden and DeSantis, Biden won with a 43% to 39% advantage. The remaining voters said they would vote for someone else or were unsure who they would vote for.

Biden had a lead of five points over DeSantis in the previous week's poll.

Why It's Important: Over the past six weeks, Biden has been tied with Trump four times and only ahead of the former president twice.

This marked a big change from past months that saw Biden have a lead of one to two percentage points in most weeks since polling began in December.

It was only eight weeks ago that Biden had a three-point lead over Trump in one of his biggest advantages in recent months, before seeing momentum shift towards Trump in recent weeks.

Biden and Trump being tied in the overall poll of national voters comes as another Morning Consult poll revealed Trump had a lead over Biden in key swing states. In the poll, Trump led Biden with a 47% to 43% margin and ranked ahead of the president with both male and female voters and across every age demographic.

The results of the poll came as more voters approved of Biden's handling of the Middle East conflict, but he still lacked a majority of voters backing his decisions in the poll.

The poll also came as Trump faced a civil fraud trial in New York that saw him fined by a judge and his two oldest sons testify this week.

Biden saw his lead over DeSantis fall in the latest poll, with a four-point lead in the latest poll after returning to a five-point lead in the prior week.

The 2024 presidential election is nearly one year away from today.
