Jason James Boudreaux, a 46-year-old sales and operations manager at a funeral home, was buying seafood and drinks at a grocery store in St. Martinville, Louisiana, for a family dinner.

His bank card was rejected due to insufficient funds, as the paycheck he deposited on that Friday on the way to the grocery store hadn’t posted yet. Boudreaux thought he would have to return later, but a stranger behind him in line, Kevin Jones, 28, offered to pay the bill.

Boudreaux was hesitant to accept, but Jones insisted and said, "I got you," according to the Washington Post, which originally covered the exchange. Boudreaux was so grateful that he took a selfie with Jones, who then disappeared.

The man decided to post the photo on Facebook to thank Jones for his act of kindness and asked if anyone knew him.

One of Boudreaux's friends recognized Jones and gave Boudreaux his phone number, Boudreaux then invited Jones to join him and about 30 others for a family meal at his place later that weekend, according to the Post.

Jones, who drives a concrete truck for a living and planned to have a crawfish boil that evening, agreed to come.

Jones and his wife arrived at Boudreaux's place, and while they were eating, Marissa Jones (Kevin's wife) mentioned that it was Kevin's 28th birthday.

Boudreaux grabbed a jelly doughnut from the kitchen, placed a candle on top, and presented it to Jones while everyone sang "Happy Birthday."

The gesture further strengthened their bond, the Post said, and mentioned that the pair is going on a fishing trip sometime soon.

Jones said he did not think twice about helping Boudreaux, as he had been in that situation before. He believes in helping anyone in need, as his mother taught him to do.

Boudreaux was pleasantly surprised by Jones' kindness, especially as he had often witnessed the worst in people when formerly working in law enforcement.

The Post said everyone at the party was impressed by Jones's kind-heartedness and believes that it showcased how good people's hearts are in Louisiana.
