Flower Turbines: How This Company Wants to Use Wind to Help the Planet

The following post was written and/or published as a collaboration between Benzinga’s in-house sponsored content team and a financial partner of Benzinga.

In late October into early November, leaders all over the globe met in the United Kingdom to discuss climate change, how to mitigate human impact on Earth and set ambitious goals for sustainable and renewable energy, including solar, hydropower and wind.

Some of the stumbling blocks companies often find when producing and promoting wind power are the noise the turbines produce, the unsightly look, cost-effectiveness, safety of wildlife and the wide space needed to house the units. Wouldn’t it be nice to have the ability to harness the wind that occurs naturally on this planet and use its power as a sustainable energy source no matter whether you live in a big city, suburban town or urban setting?

Flower Turbines (a company currently raising capital via a crowdfunding campaign) reports that it created an aerodynamic, small wind turbine that brings beauty and efficiency to every outdoor space while providing clean energy and doing its part to respect the environment.

So, what makes Flower Turbines different? The secret apparently lies in the unique design.

An Innovative Design?

Instead of the typical windmill shape you might associate with wind turbines, Flower Turbines created a small and aerodynamic tulip design. One of the problems that plagues traditional wind energy units like you see in other wind turbine companies, is their incapacity to sit close to one another, making them take up more land and difficult to use in smaller areas.

But Flower Turbines states that the tulip-shaped turbines allow them to be closer together. In fact, placing them close together makes them perform better by between 20% to 50% and makes them a little more cost-effective than solar, provided it’s a windy area. Traditional turbines peppered across the landscape aren't always very attractive, but cluster flower turbines together in a space, and you have a sustainable energy garden.

To accommodate a multitude of markets, Flower Turbines’ units come in 3 sizes: mini, residential and large. The company even makes off-grid e-bike chargers powered by its wind turbines, addressing possible expected growth in the e-bike market sector.

Reaching a New Market

The projected market for small turbines is expected to reach $400 million by 2024, which is about a 42.5% growth rate. While Flower Turbines has concentrated its operations in Europe, it plans to do more manufacturing and development in the United States.

With the last round of funding raised by the company by investors, Flower Turbines reportedly developed its team and boosted its supply chain in the European Union with Dutch manufacturing.
