Vulcan Materials Co was incorporated in New Jersey on February 14, 2007, while its predecessor company was incorporated on September 27, 1956. It is a producer of construction aggregates, namely crushed stone, sand and gravel and also produces asphalt mix and ready-mixed concrete and is a producer of cement in Florida. Its Sources of energy are sources of energy are electricity, diesel fuel, natural gas and coal. The Company operates four segments, Aggregates, Concrete, Asphalt Mix and Cement which are organized around its principal product lines. The asphalt mix and concrete facilities are able to meet their needs for raw material inputs with a combination of internally sourced and purchased raw materials. Its Cement segment operates a limestone quarry in Newberry, Florida which provides its cement production facility with feedstock materials and a quarry at Brooksville, Florida which provides feedstock for the ground calcium operation. The Newberry limestone quarry is mined as feedstock for its wholly-owned cement production facility. The process of making cement requires raw materials including high purity limestone to achieve the chemical reactions that generate the final product. The Brooksville limestone quarry is mined and processed as a supplement for end-use products such as animal feed, plastics and paint. The Concrete segment produces and sells ready-mixed concrete in California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Texas, Virginia and the District of Columbia and the Bahamas. Additionally, it produces and sells other concrete products such as block. It also resells purchased building materials for use with ready-mixed concrete and concrete block. The Asphalt segment produces and sells asphalt mix in Arizona, California, and Texas. The Newberry, Florida cement plant produces Portland and masonry cement that it sells in both bulk and bags to the concrete products industry.
