Alliant Energy Corp was incorporated in Wisconsin in 1981. The Company operates as a regulated investor-owned public utility holding company. It provides regulated electricity and natural gas service to approximately 1 million electric and approximately 4,18,000 natural gas customers in the Midwest through its two public utility subsidiaries, IPL and WPL. The wholly-owned subsidiaries of the company are: IPL, WPL, Resources and Corporate Services. IPL was incorporated in 1925 in Iowa as Iowa Railway and Light Corporation. IPL is a public utility engaged in the generation and distribution of electricity and the distribution and transportation of natural gas in selective markets in Iowa and southern Minnesota. IPL is also engaged in the generation and distribution of steam for two customers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. WPL was incorporated in 1917 in Wisconsin as Eastern Wisconsin Electric Company. WPL is a public utility engaged in the generation and distribution of electricity and the distribution and transportation of natural gas in selective markets in southern and central Wisconsin. WPL operates in municipalities pursuant to permits of indefinite duration and state statutes authorizing utility operation in areas annexed by a municipality. Resources was incorporated in 1988 in Wisconsin. In 2008, Resources was converted to a limited liability company. Corporate Services was incorporated in 1997 in Iowa. Corporate Services provides administrative services to the company, IPL, WPL and Resources. The Company's utility business (IPL and WPL) has three segments electric operations; gas operations; and other, which includes IPL's steam operations and the unallocated portions of the utility business. Alliant Energy, IPL and WPL are subject to regulation by various federal, state, international and local agencies.
