Gran Tierra Energy Inc was incorporated under the laws of the State of Nevada on June 6, 2003. The Company together with its subsidiaries is an international energy company engaged in oil and gas acquisition, exploration, development and production. The Company has acquired oil and gas producing and non-producing assets in Colombia, Peru, Argentina and Brazil, with the acquisition of Solana Resources Limited in 2008 and Petrolifera Petroleum Limited in 2011. Its reportable segments are Colombia, Peru and Brazil based on geographic organization. The Company has interests in approximately 29 blocks in Colombia, and presently operates most of them; its Argentina properties are located in the Noroeste Basin in northern Argentina and the Neuquen Basin in central Argentina; its Brazilian properties are located in the Reconcavo Basin in Eastern Brazil in the State of Bahia and has interests in seven blocks; and its Peru properties are located in Marañon Basin and has interests & operates five blocks. The Company faces competition from both local and international companies in acquiring properties, contracting for drilling and other oil field equipment and securing trained personnel. The Company's activities are subject to existing laws and regulations governing environmental quality and pollution control in the foreign countries where it maintains operations. Its activities with respect to exploration, drilling and production from wells, facilities, including the operation and construction of pipelines, plants and other facilities for transporting, processing, treating or storing crude oil and other products, are subject to stringent environmental regulation by provincial and federal authorities in Colombia, Argentina and Peru.
