It also operates a web-based connectivity portal solution for laboratories and physicians through its CareEvolve subsidiary. The Company competes with three types of providers in a highly fragmented and competitive industry: hospital laboratories, physician-office laboratories and other independent clinical laboratories. Its competitors in the New York metropolitan area are Quest Diagnostics (DGX) and Laboratory Corporation of America (LH). The Company is subject to federal and state laws and regulations regarding the protection of the environment, the health and safety of employees, and the handling, transportation and disposal of medical specimens, and infectious and hazardous wastes.
