Grant Cardone Offers A Harsh Truth For Underperformers: 'If You Are Living Below Your Potential, It Is Only Your Fault'

Grant Cardone isn't afraid of speaking harsh truths that can make people discover where they can improve. His book, "Be Obsessed Or Be Average," is filled with brutal truths, and he dropped a big one in chapter two.

"If you are living below your potential, it is only your fault."

This statement may be a hard pill to swallow for some people. It's easier and more comfortable to blame circumstances like your environment or upbringing. However, putting the entire blame on yourself suddenly puts you in control. This mentality can push you toward more ambitious goals for your career and finances.

Get Uncomfortable

Tapping into your potential requires getting out of your comfort zone. Cardone says he's at his weakest when he settles into his comfort zone, but he's at his best when he is pushing boundaries.

Each person has a different path outside of their comfort zone. It may involve taking more action, doing something new, or moving. Cardone says that moving to a new town or city can force you to meet new people and dial in on your goals.

You will have to get uncomfortable often to tap into your potential. If you are not willing to change, your results will not change.

Set Big Goals

Our goals influence how much we work and what we achieve in our lives. Whether you want to advance in your career or build a larger portfolio, setting big goals can help you unlock more of your potential.

Cardone says it's good to set big goals, but you should never reduce them. Instead of reducing targets, Cardone believes that you should take more action to move closer to your high benchmark.

Big goals also make it easier to work harder and continue to push when others want to call it a day. Ambitious goals set the stage for incredible rewards, but you can only get the best rewards by working harder than your peers.

Changing The Script

You are responsible for where you are right now and how you choose to move forward. Being obsessed and fully embracing your goals can help you on the path to unlocking your potential.

However, it's important to avoid blaming people or circumstances when things don't go your way. High performers also shy away from any excuses and focus on how they can improve.

It's never too late to tap into your potential. Cardone was a drug addict in his early 20s, but he turned it around by taking responsibility for his life and committing to big goals.

Change isn't easy, but staying where you are may be more difficult in the long run.
