As Trump's Economic Approval Rating Plummets, He Goes After Rupert Murdoch

  • A Fox News poll revealed that 71% of people rate economic conditions under President Donald Trump negatively
  • In a post on Truth Social, the president pushed back, calling the outlet and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, out for "getting MAGA wrong"
  • The post was the latest in the on-again, off-again relationship between the two billionaires

Only 38% of Americans approve of the way President Donald Trump has handled the economy in his first 100 days in office, according to a poll released on April 23 by Fox News. Additionally, just 33% of people approve of the way he has handled tariffs and inflation.

Overall, 71% of respondents rated economic conditions negatively, while 55% said things are getting worse for their families.

Don't Miss:

The president took to Truth Social to express his disappointment with the findings and with Fox News for publicizing them.

"Rupert Murdoch has told me for years that he is going to get rid of his FoxNews, Trump Hating, Fake Pollster, but he has never done so," Trump wrote. "This ‘pollster' has gotten me, and MAGA, wrong for years. Also, and while he's at it, he should start making changes at the China Loving Wall Street Journal. It sucks!!!"

The post was the second time Trump has criticized Fox News during his second term. Typically, his posts about the outlet are generally more positive, highlighting favorable coverage or publicizing his allies' appearances on the network.

Trending: BlackRock is calling 2025 the year of alternative assets. One firm from NYC has quietly built a group of 60,000+ investors who have all joined in on an alt asset class previously exclusive to billionaires like Bezos and Gates.

But in March, he had harsh words for the network's senior White House correspondent, Jacqui Heinrich, writing, "I watched Jacqui Heinrich from Fox over the weekend and I thought she was absolutely terrible. She should be working for CNN, not Fox. Not surprisingly, I later found out that she's a fan of the White House Correspondents Association!" Trump has famously taken issue with the White House Correspondents Association, and is the only sitting president to never attend its annual correspondents' dinner while in office.

As for the Journal, Trump has been much more vocal about his dislike of the newspaper. The outlet's conservative-leaning opinion pages have been critical of his tariff policies, which has led to Trump writing dozens of disparaging posts about it on Truth Social. He's called it "the Fake News Wall Street Journal" or the "always wrong Wall Street Journal," accusing it of writing "some real CLINKERS" about his policies.

Murdoch has had a tumultuous relationship with the president. Murdoch's New York Post ran a headline mocking Trump's second run in 2022, writing "Florida Man Makes Announcement." In his book "Revenge, The Inside Story of Trump's Return to Power," former Axios reporter Alex Isenstadt writes Murdoch's apathy towards him reportedly annoyed Trump so much that he called Murdoch a "piece of s***."

Still, that didn't stop Murdoch from visiting Trump in the Oval Office earlier this year. When asked by reporters why he had invited Murdoch, Trump replied, "Just respect, I have great respect for Rupert Murdoch. I disagree with him a lot of times with The Wall Street Journal but it's all right. We've disagreed before. And I'm sure they didn't have any idea what they were talking about."
