Big fruit producers have underperformed this year, such as Chiquita Brands (NYSE:
CQB) which is down over 15% this year, and First Energy (NYSE:
FE) which is down over 19% this year.
Maybe it's because gas and fruit are so expensive nowadays. Showing the biggest increase in eight months, today's Producer Price Index (
PPI) figures rose 0.8% in November versus the 0.6% estimate of
a Bloomberg News survey.
Compared with a year earlier, companies paid 3.5% more for goods this November. The leaders in the price increases included gasoline and fruit.
