U.S. stocks traded lower midway through trading, with the Nasdaq Composite falling around 0.4% on Monday.

The Dow traded down 0.27% to 48,328.47 while the NASDAQ fell 0.36% to 23,112.04. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.11% to 6,819.62.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Health care shares jumped by 0.9% on Monday.

In trading on Monday, energy stocks fell by 1.5%.

Top Headline

The NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index rose to 39 in December, recording the highest reading in eight months, compared to 38 in November, and versus market estimates of 38.

  • 3 E Network Technology Group Ltd (NASDAQ:MASK) shares shot up 47% to $0.44 after the company signed a master services agreement to develop an AI data center in Finland.
  • Shares of Kyverna Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:KYTX) got a boost, surging 28% to $11.22 after the company announced topline data from KYSA-8.
  • Artiva Biotherapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ARTV) shares were also up, gaining 50% to $4.94 after the company reported positive initial safety and translational data supporting deep B-Cell depletion with AlloNK® in autoimmune disease.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • iRobot Corp (NASDAQ:IRBT) shares dropped 72% to $1.20 after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
  • Shares of Argo Blockchain PLC – ADR (NASDAQ:ARBK) were down 22% to $5.35. Shares of crypto-related companies traded lower amid volatility in the price of Bitcoin.
  • Momentus Inc (NASDAQ:MNTS) was down, falling 43% to $0.48 after the company announced a 1-for-17.85 reverse split.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded down 1.5% to $56.58 while gold traded down 0.1% at $4,366.60.

Silver traded up 2.2% to $63.395 on Monday, while copper rose 1.1% to $5.4175.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 gained 0.74%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 1.11%. London's FTSE 100 jumped 1.06%, Germany's DAX 40 rose 0.18% and France's CAC 40 gained 0.70% during the session.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed lower on Monday, with Japan's Nikkei falling 1.31%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng dipping 1.34%, China's Shanghai Composite declining 0.55% and India's BSE Sensex falling 0.06%.

Economics

  • The NY Empire State Manufacturing Index fell to -3.9 in December, compared to a one-year high level of 18.7 in the previous month, and missing market estimates of 10.
  • The NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index rose to 39 in December, recording the highest reading in eight months, compared to 38 in November, and versus market estimates of 38.
