TikTok Is Recruiting A Team To Enhance Direct Messages On The App

Popular video-sharing platform TikTok, owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance, seems to be setting its sights on strengthening its messaging capabilities.

As per a recent report by Android Headlines, ByteDance is recruiting engineers and product managers for a newly formed team named "TikTok Social" to focus on enhancing TikTok’s messaging experience.

Job listings on ByteDance’s site suggest that the TikTok Social team will work towards building “meaningful social connections between users". Moreover, they hint at developing new messaging features and expanded ways for users to engage on the platform.

However, ByteDance has not explicitly disclosed their plans. A statement from the firm to Axios said it might explore new features, but entertainment will continue to be the heart of TikTok.

TikTok revolutionized the social media landscape with its short-form vertical videos. Its influence is evident as major platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Snapchat have adopted this feature. TikTok appears to be gearing up to offer a comprehensive social media package, with rumors of a music app and additional features such as shopping, podcasts, and text posts.

There are few details about the prospective messaging system. Whether the platform will introduce encrypted one-to-one chats, group chats, communities, stories, or more remains unclear. More clarity is expected in the forthcoming months.
