Zinger Key Points
  • Linus Sebastian of Linus Tech Tips has promised a “new commitment” towards improving content quality.
  • On the other hand, Gamers Nexus’ Stephen Burke has pulled down his latest reaction video, accepting mistakes on his part.
  • Here’s the latest on the Linus Tech Tips vs. Gamers Nexus controversy.

The controversy between popular tech YouTubers Linus Tech Tips and Gamers Nexus refuses to die down, but both the streamers Linus Sebastian and Stephen Burke seem to be accepting their mistakes now.

What Happened: After a controversial video by Gamers Nexus' Stephen Burke earlier this month that pointed out several issues with Linus Tech Tips' videos, Linus has promised a "new commitment to whatever it takes," while Burke has now pulled down his most recent video reacting to the issues pointed out with his own videos.

The LTT vs Gamers Nexus controversy had been brewing for a few months now, but things heated up when Gamers Nexus released a 45-minute-long video criticizing the Linus Media Group (LMG) for inaccuracy, conflict of interest, and misinformation. Subsequently, the community outrage forced LMG to pause video production for a week – a rare occurrence for a group that regularly churns out multiple videos.

However, after the initial storm waned around Linus' outbursts, the tech enthusiast community on the Reddit group r/LinusTechTips (not affiliated with the LTT YouTube channel) called out Gamers Nexus' Burke for misleading viewers and not sticking to "journalistic practices" as Linus had pointed out in his first statement.

"To Steve, I expressed my disappointment that he didn't go through proper journalistic practices in creating this piece. He has my email and number (along with numerous other members of our team) and could have asked me for context that may have proven to be valuable,” Linus said.

What Now: After weathering the storm, LTT released its first video on Friday, highlighting the way forward for the media group.

Linus has promised a "new commitment to whatever it takes to improve content quality" after earlier admitting that there was "sloppiness" on LMG's part. As such, LTT will no longer commit to a daily video upload schedule, and there will be a new quality assurance system to ensure errors in videos are caught.

Stephen Burke, too, has admitted that there were issues with his "tone and delivery" in his latest reaction video that tried to counter the claims of conflict of interest by another tech YouTuber, Dr. Ian Cuttress.

"After reading some of the commenter criticisms of the "Defining GN's goals" video, primarily those on tone and delivery, I agree with some of them," Burke said, announcing the pull down of his video.

Linus, however, lashed out at the online trolls – who, at one point, were harassing LMG employees on social media.

"In recent weeks, a shocking number of our team members have been harassed, bullied, and even threatened on social media," Linus said, adding, "you know who you are, and shame on you".

While this might not be the last we'll hear in the Linus Tech Tips vs. Gamers Nexus saga, it's likely that things will get relatively calmer from here on. In the end, though, if LTT addresses the issues highlighted by Gamers Nexus, the community will be better off for it.
