Sony Exploring A More Powerful PlayStation 4 To Better Handle Virtual Reality Games

Virtual reality gaming appears to be set to enter the mainstream market and Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE: SNE) is looking to secure its market share.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Sony is preparing a more powerful version of its PlayStation 4 console that will be better equipped to handle higher-end gaming experiences, specifically virtual reality.

WSJ noted current PlayStation 4 owners would need to buy the new hardware to take advantage of coming virtual reality games. The publication added that the new console could be announced as soon as October, coinciding with the scheduled release of the PlayStation VR, Sony's new virtual-reality headset.

Shares of Sony showed no trades early Monday morning and closed at $25.47 on Thursday, down 0.39 percent.
