Just one day after laying out it May finale plans, CBS Corporation CBS on Thursday revealed its summer roster.
After years of letting its reruns and reality staple "Big Brother" compose its entire off-season schedule, CBS broke through a few years ago with originals. In the years since the network has completely overhauled investor expectations for this period.
With "Under The Dome" and "Extant" now wrapped, the network will turn to two new rookie series to combine with the returning "Zoo" to keep audience's attention. Of course that is in addition to "Big Brother" which will return on June 22 before settling into its three times a week traditional schedule.
On the dramatic front, CBS will premiere "Brain Dead," a new comic-thriller from Robert King and Michelle King, the acclaimed husband-and-wife team behind "The Good Wife." Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Aaron Tevit and "Monk" star Tony Shaloub will headline the show that revolves around a young D.C. staffer who realizes aliens have taken over the minds of Congressional leaders. It will inherit the old "Dome" slot on Monday's at 10pm starting on June 13.
The next week "American Gothic" joins the mix on June 22. The murder-mystery comes from Steven Spielberg and will star Virginia Madsen, Justin Chatwin and Stephanie Leonidas. It centers on a prominent Boston family that becomes intertwined in a series of mysterious deaths.
"Zoo" based on the James Patterson novel will return for its second season on June 28 with a two-hour opener.
