Unlike Twitter, Google+ isn't Celebrity-Friendly

Google's
GOOG
hard work might be for nothing if it keeps up this behavior.
The company's
overhyped
social networking service, Google+, has criticized William Shatner of violating the site's standards. What, exactly, are those standards that the Star Trek and Boston Legal legend supposedly violated? According to
Business Insider
, “Google+ doesn't allow businesses to set up pages on the site yet, because it wants to wait until it can roll out a specific business page interface, like Facebook's Pages.” Business Insider said that this leaves a gray area for celebrities like Shatner, “who are both individuals and brands that clearly operate like businesses in social media.” At press time, Shatner's Google+ page
was still active
, albeit without any public messages to display. Meanwhile, his
Twitter account
is alive and kicking with frequent updates. Is this one of Google's biggest mistake? Could its less-than-friendly attitude toward celebrities keep them from supporting the service as heavily as they support Twitter? While Google is a powerhouse that should not be underestimated, my gut tells me that if this incident is repeated, Google+ will undoubtedly suffer.
