Munster left the research firm Piper Jaffray to create a firm called Loup Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm that focuses on virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence and robotics.
What Pichai Said
"Looking to the future, the next big step will be for the very concept of the ‘device' to fade away," Munster quoted Pichai as saying in the conference call. "Over time, the computer itself — whatever its form factor — will be an intelligent assistant helping you through your day. We will move from mobile-first to an AI-first world."
Munster commented that he "couldn't agree more" with Pichai's statement. He expanded that artificial intelligence makes products better for consumers and more effective — not to mention a "joy to use."
From a financial point of view, artificial intelligence products mean consumers spend more money. For Google, this means consumers will spend more time watching relevant ads.
However, the shift to artificial intelligence within search won't be as simple as Google perfected its monetization initiatives with advertised blue search results links. Nevertheless, Munster argued that eventually artificial intelligence will be a positive for the Google story.
"It's hard to say what the future might look like for voice interface, but Google has a track record of adapting to new interfaces, and our bet is that AI search will be a better user experience and monetization opportunity," Munster argued.
