Meolah, a 22-year-old woman who applied for 150 jobs without success, discussed her ongoing struggle with unemployment on TikTok.  

Since starting work at age 16, this is the first time she is without a job. 

"I can't even explain how demoralizing it is without bursting into tears," Meolah said in a video that she explained was not intended to inspire but to express her frustration.

In her TikTok post, Meolah detailed the exhaustive effort she puts into each application, from crafting personalized cover letters to preparing for interviews, only to be overlooked or rejected at the final stages.

"Do you know how frustrating it is to not hear a single response back?" she asked her audience, highlighting the emotional toll of being consistently ghosted by potential employers.

She also touched on the roller coaster of emotions that comes with job hunting — hope followed by disappointment. Meolah said her value system places a significant emphasis on work, not just formal employment, which makes the situation even more challenging. 

"When you're stuck in a position like this for so long, eventually you're going to start to wonder, ‘Is it you?' Is there something you could be doing better?" she asked, voicing a common insecurity among job seekers.

The response from her followers was overwhelmingly empathetic, with many sharing their struggles with unemployment in the current job market. Comments ranged from tales of prolonged unemployment despite extensive experience and qualifications to expressions of anxiety and frustration over the normalization of ghosting in job applications. 


"The ghosting is ridiculous. Like how did this become normalized?!" one user said, while another wrote, "I'm 24 and unemployed for the first time since 17 and it's TERRIBLE like my anxiety is on 1,000 and I am GREAT at interviews."
