Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:SMCI) stock is falling Wednesday as an export-control case involving people linked to the company continues to weigh on investor sentiment. A broader decline in semiconductor and AI-related stocks is adding to the pressure. The Nasdaq is down 1% while the S&P 500 has shed 0.67% and technology is leading the downside with a 1.4% loss.
Contractor Pleads Guilty in Export Case
Ting-Wei "Willy" Sun, a contractor linked to Super Micro, pleaded guilty last Thursday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, Reuters reported, citing a court filing. The case involves servers equipped with advanced chips from Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) in an alleged $2.5 billion scheme to export them to China.
Sun pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate U.S. export controls, smuggling, defrauding the U.S. government and obstructing justice.
What the Indictment Alleges
Prosecutors allege that Sun and two others linked to Super Micro diverted AI servers to China starting in 2024. They also allege the group used fake servers and misled U.S. Commerce Department officials during a December 2025 inspection. The indictment says the shipments violated U.S. export restrictions covering Nvidia’s B200, H100 and H200 chips.
Super Micro said it fired Sun and severed ties with the other defendants earlier this year.
Technical Analysis
From a trend perspective, SMCI is still holding a longer-term constructive structure, trading 14.5% above its 200-day SMA and 4.9% above its 100-day SMA. But the stock is also 10.5% below its 20-day SMA and 3.7% below its 50-day SMA, which frames the current action as a pullback inside a broader uptrend rather than a clean breakout attempt.
The moving-average backdrop is still supportive longer term, with the 20-day SMA above the 50-day SMA (bullish) and the 50-day SMA above the 200-day SMA (the golden cross that occurred in August). Still, traders will likely treat the October swing high as an overhead reference point, especially after the stock broke below support in August and has been working to rebuild its base since the July swing low.
- Key Resistance: $42 — a round-number area near the 20-day/50-day zone where rebounds can stall
- Key Support: $35.50 — a nearby floor close to the 100-day SMA area where dip-buyers may defend
SMCI Stock Price Activity: Super Micro Computer shares are trading lower by 5.38% at $36.97 at the time of publication on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
