Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), who was in the news with regard to violation of the Senate dress code, created a furor with a comment he made about Congressmen on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Wednesday.

What Happened: “America is not sending their best and brightest to Washington D.C.,” Fetterman said in reply to a question from the host about whether he feels awkward to be in Capitol Hill and meet people whom he had put up memes about.

“Sometimes you literally just can’t believe these people are making the decisions that are determining the government here,” the senator said, adding “It’s actually scary.”

He referred to the recent development of the lack of consensus that nearly led to a government shutdown. The House members came over and said the bill has to be unanimous, he noted. “Out of the 99 of us in the Senate, if one single one of us would have said no, the whole government would have shut down,” he said.

“That’s how dangerous that is to put that kind of power in one’s hands because you have very less gifted kinds of people there that they are willing to shut down the government just to score points on Fox,” Letterman said.

Letterman Faces Flak: Congressman soon took exception to his comments, slamming him for his disparaging remarks. GOP Governor from Arkansas Mike Huckabee took to X, formerly Twitter, to slam Fetterman.

“Fetterman speaks [the] truth. He’s unaware of it, but he embodies the very truth he speaks. This could have been a skit on SNL,” he said.

Libs of TikTok creator Chaya Raichik said in a post, “Does he own a mirror,” Fox News reported.

“Just wait until John Fetterman hears about John Fetterman,” said Alex Lorusso, another conservative commentator and media producer.

“The whole Fetterman thing is just one giant troll,” added conservative podcast host and former Trump administration official Monica Crowley.
