The “Don’t Extradite Assange Campaign” is taking its advocacy to the digital realm.

The first-ever virtual political rally in the Wistaverse metaverse is happening on Saturday, Aug. 26.

This initiative aims to galvanize global support against the potential extradition of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to the U.S.

The rally, organized in collaboration with Assange's family, will feature an array of speakers, including Assange via a pre-recorded message, his wife Stella Assange, WikiLeaks co-founder Kristinn Hrafnsson, and British politician Jeremy Corbyn.

John Rees, a representative from the campaign, emphasized the significance of this virtual event.

“This event in the Wistaverse is a valuable opportunity to unite people across the world who believe in freedom of speech and freedom of the press to show their support for Julian," Rees said.

The Wistaverse, launched in May, is a platform for virtual protests in the metaverse, offering a space for individuals worldwide to participate in causes of universal importance, irrespective of their geographical location.

Jules Alcazar, a founder of Wistaverse, expressed enthusiasm about hosting the rally, noting that the platform's technology ensures user anonymity while allowing universal participation.

The virtual rally will be hosted in an auditorium designed to resemble London's Royal Courts of Justice, where Assange is slated to face his final appeal.

The event is a precursor to a real-life protest planned at the same venue once the court date is announced.

Attendees of the rally will experience the event through avatars, allowing them to listen to speeches, view content, and interact with others.

The rally is accessible to anyone with a computer and will commence at 5 p.m. BST on Aug. 26.

The campaign against Assange's extradition has gained momentum due to the potential 175-year jail sentence he could face in the U.S. for revealing classified information about the Iraq and Afghan wars.

The U.S. authorities' move to extradite Assange has been met with significant resistance, with many viewing it as an attack on press freedom.
