Shares of Healthways, Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/hway#NASDAQ">HWAY</a>) were trading up over 11 percent midday Tuesday following an upgrade from UBS Global Research and four insider transactions over the past two trading days.
After the market close on November 1, Healthways reported Q3 earnings, <a href="http://seekingalpha.com/news/3219402-healthways-misses-0_22-beats-revenue">falling short of analyst expectations</a> (adjusted EPS of $0.30 vs. $0.52 estimate) and slightly beating sales ($125 million vs. $124.7 million estimate.)
After reporting, the company&rsquo;s shares fell more than 22 percent over the next two trading days before experiencing <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/news/insider-trades">insider buys</a> from the company CEO and two directors.

Barrington Research maintains an Outperform rating on Healthways, Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/hway#NASDAQ">HWAY</a>) ahead of its third-quarter results on November 1 and following the closure of the unprofitable total population health solutions business.
The brokerage expects adjusted EPS of $0.52 while the consensus estimate stands at $0.49. Barrington projects third-quarter revenue to come in at $124.7 million, in line with consensus.
Analyst Michael Petusky said the gross margins of network solutions business is not likely to meaningfully deteriorate further, but he is also not expecting an significant expansion either.

The analyst expects Healthways to end 2016 with around $230 million in net debt, but the company intends to deleverage its balance sheet fairly aggressively beginning in 2017. Given the company&rsquo;s strong projected cash flows, the analyst sees net debt to be well below $150 million by of the end of 2017.
As such, Petusky raised his price target to $30 from $29 to reflect his increasing conviction that Healthways will be able to de-lever its balance sheet in a very timely manner.
&ldquo;Healthways now has a much more predictable business, which should continue to generate strong profit margins and exceptional free cash flow generation,&rdquo; Petusky wrote in a note.
Shares of Healthways closed Wednesday&rsquo;s trading at $25. In the pre-market hours Thursday, the stock is down 3 percent to $24.19, but at last check, the stock had rebounded to up 0.2 percent at $25.05.

22 Stocks With Three-Day Increasing Volume

UBS downgraded Healthways, Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/hway#NASDAQ">HWAY</a>) shares from Neutral to Sell. However, the brokerage has boosted the price objective from $19 to $22.50.
As the company has been restructuring, the stock jumped 100 percent in last 30 days. The lead analyst questioned whether the restructured firm could be in a position to deliver increased expectations from investors. 
The brokerage said in the research note, "Our estimates assume 100 percent contract retention and no margin pressure from contract renewals. UnitedHealth Group Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/unh#NYSE">UNH</a>), HWAY's second largest client, has its contract expiring at the end of 2017. We anticipate the contract will be renewed, but note that HWAY experienced gross margin pressure from a contract renewal (likely Humana Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/hum#NYSE">HUM</a>)) in 2015. However, management is confident SG&amp;A improvement can offset any GM pressure."

The lead analyst cited moderation in Medicare Advantage enrollment growth as support for his bearish stance. He pointed out that about 80 percent revenue is likely to come from SilverSneakers after the restructuring, and the recent years have witnessed a slowdown in Medicare Advantage.
For instance, Medicare Advantage witnessed year-to-date growth of 4.9 percent until August compared to 6.8 percent in the same period last year and 9.8 percent in the preceding year. Therefore, the analyst sees the revenue growth target at risk directly due to enrollment slowdown.
At time of writing, Healthways was trading at $24.41, down 4.51 percent on the day.

Barclays upgraded the shares of Healthways, Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/hway#NASDAQ">HWAY</a>) from an Underweight to an Equal-Weight rating. The brokerage also boosted the price target from $12 to $27, citing enhanced returns due to transformation.
Analyst Joshua Raskin pointed out that the company maintained a portfolio of different services in the health and wellness field. It has also been trying to meet every component of the healthcare sector. The company's leadership has undergone changes following a year-long tactical review.
"Going forward, the services offered and customers targeted are much more focused. The company could shed approximately 40 percent of its revenues in this transformation. Most importantly, in our view, the company was able to find a 'buyer' that took operating losses at what we estimate to be about 1x those losses (thought of another way &mdash; selling losses at 1x is similar to buying earnings at 1x)," the analyst said.

Pointing out that several transformations have happened in the healthcare sector, Barclays thinks Healthways believes the new management is more focused for maintaining a better growth course. This was evident from the way the company is selling its services to realize sustained higher margins and returns.
Raskin expects adjusted EPS of $1.28 in the current year and $1.50 for next year. His price target was arrived at based on 18x his 2017 EPS estimate.
At time of writing this, shares of the company were seen up 3.29 percent to $25.72, but quickly retreated to $25.
