Spotify Embraces AI Agents From ChatGPT to Muse as New Growth Engine: ‘We Are Simply Everywhere’

Spotify Technology S.A. (NYSE:SPOT) is embracing the rise of AI agents, betting that integrations with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Meta Platforms, Inc.’s (NASDAQ:META) Muse and other assistants will expand access to its music catalog without weakening its relationship with listeners.

Spotify Wants to Be Everywhere In the AI Agent Race

Spotify shares closed Thursday up 11.19% at $583.66, despite the company missing Wall Street’s third-quarter earnings and revenue estimates, as subscriber and monthly active user growth supported investor sentiment.

The stock was down about 0.39% premarket on Friday, according to Benzinga Pro.

Co-CEO Gustav Söderström said during the earnings call that Spotify aims to become the preferred platform for licensed media across AI agents, allowing users to access music, podcasts and audiobooks through third-party assistants.

"We are simply everywhere," Söderström said, highlighting integrations with ChatGPT, Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses and Muse, as well as OpenAI’s Dots.

The strategy lets users request personalized playlists or discover audio content through AI assistants, while Spotify’s own systems handle recommendations and playback.

Söderström said the company is "unusually well positioned" for the agentic AI era because its subscription and advertising businesses can continue generating revenue even when listeners access Spotify in the background.

Spotify Sees AI Agents as a Business Opportunity

Rather than viewing AI assistants as competitors, Spotify wants to turn them into additional distribution channels.

The company has also integrated with Anthropic’s Claude and announced a partnership with Meta’s Muse to enable personalized music discovery.

Its goal, Söderström said, is to become "the media service that you use from any agent," turning AI assistant growth into a business advantage.

AI Integrations Could Bring New Data and Privacy Questions

The strategy could also give Spotify more insight into listeners’ preferences. Requests made through AI agents may reveal interests Spotify would not otherwise know, Söderström said, describing the resulting feedback loop as positive for the company.

He said Spotify does not share its proprietary user data with third-party agents. Instead, Spotify’s own systems handle requests and use available information to determine what to play.

Spotify is also developing AI-powered discovery tools and exploring paid features for AI-generated covers and remixes as it seeks to strengthen its own platform alongside external integrations.

Spotify Q3 Earnings Miss Estimates

Spotify posted earnings of $2.85 per share, falling short of analysts’ consensus estimate of $3.11. Revenue increased 16% year over year to 4.97 billion euros ($5.72 billion), narrowly missing Wall Street’s forecast of $5.73 billion.

For the fourth quarter, Spotify projects revenue of 5.2 billion euros, or approximately $5.985 billion, below analysts’ consensus estimate of $6.010 billion.

According to Benzinga Edge Stock Rankings, SPOT shows weak short-term price trends but positive medium- and long-term trends, while ranking in the 97th percentile for Growth.
