Ford Sales Slide 6.6% After Model Phase-Outs

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) on Friday reported a 6.6% year-over-year decline in third-quarter U.S. vehicle sales as planned portfolio changes weighed on volumes.

Ford sold 509,764 vehicles during the quarter. Excluding the planned phase-out of the Escape and Lincoln Corsair, however, total vehicle sales were essentially unchanged from a year earlier. The automaker said the broader U.S. industry declined about 1%.

Ford Gains Retail Share

Ford estimated its third-quarter retail market share, excluding the Escape and Corsair, increased about 0.4 percentage points from a year earlier to 12.1%.

The automaker sold 1.52 million vehicles through September. Truck and van sales totaled 891,400 vehicles during the first nine months.

F-Series remained a major driver. Sales reached 561,508 trucks through September, more than 140,000 ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford said.

September F-Series sales increased 2.4% to 67,448 vehicles. Ford said the nameplate remains on track for its 50th consecutive year as America’s best-selling truck.

Overall F-Series production increased 4.5% to 266,777 trucks.

Ford also disclosed that F-150 production was affected late in September by a short-term supplier issue unrelated to aluminum. The company said the expected financial impact can be absorbed within its existing 2026 adjusted EBIT guidance of $10 billion to $11 billion.

Bronco sales also set third-quarter and year-to-date records, while Explorer sales increased 17.6% through September to 189,210 SUVs.

Meanwhile, Ford’s active paid software subscriptions exceeded 1.7 million through September, up more than 40% from a year earlier.
