The data, derived from big data analysis of user activities on the platform, indicates that the previous year&#8217;s 4/20 was highly successful, with Weedmaps experiencing a twofold increase in normal operations.</p>
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Big Data, Big Deals</h2>
<p>Weedmaps pointed out that consumers are prioritizing value, as the platform registered a 200% surge in orders that redeem deals through the platform during 4/20 week of 2023 compared to 2022.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Furthermore, the platform has observed a rising trend in usage, with deal claims increasing by 100% over 2022. This uptick is likely motivated by price reductions, as the costs for flowers, vape pens, and edibles have continued to decrease for the second consecutive year, showing declines of 15%, 14%, and 17% when compared to 2021.</p>
<p>Weemaps also shared that consumers will probably be expending even more in goods than years before, since the average order value surged to $96.22 in 2023, a 14% increase compared to an average Thursday in April of 2023. This is despite deflation.</p>
<p>Additionally, the quantity of orders expanded by an average of 25% in terms of items per basket on 4/20 of last year, in comparison to 2022.</p>
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Category Insights</h2>

<li>During the 4/20 retail week of 2023, vape pens witnessed a 29% growth over 2022, and an impressive 126% increase compared to 2020, with the largest demographic being Gen Z (31%).</li>

Unparalleled 4/20: Weedmaps Unveils Consumer Trends Ahead Of Cannabis Industry's Biggest Holiday

<p>As you may have heard, cannabis consumption among older folks is on the rise. More specifically, seniors are one of the fastest-growing groups of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/cannabis">cannabis users in the U.S. </a></p>
<p>As it turns out, many older adults have been consuming weed for decades and new ones are joining in on the fun. Cannabis consumption among our parents and grandparents has quadrupled in the past eight years.</p>
<p>Study after study suggests that older adults are using cannabis to remedy an array of conditions such as sleep issues, pain,&nbsp;inflammation and to activate their appetites. </p>
<p>But most consume because they still enjoy getting high.</p>
<p>"Sure, I sleep better with cannabis and topical creams alleviate my knee pain, but that's all new. I've been smoking pot for the past four decades and I see no reason to stop getting high," said Cynthia P who recently retired as an ER nurse in Ohio where recreational marijuana <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/23/11/35664155/ohio-legalizes-cannabis-and-overwhelmingly-approves-abortion-rights">became legal</a> last November.</p>
<p>Scientists and researchers are wisely becoming interested in this Baby Boomer demographic of 77 million, many of whom are healthy, economically stable and have no plans of checking out anytime soon, so they say.</p>
<p>One particular<a href="https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnagi.2022.804890/full" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&nbsp;study</a>,&nbsp;that examined marijuana use in adults aged&nbsp;60 to 88 found that&nbsp;whole-plant cannabis did&nbsp;not harm&nbsp;cognition but rather the opposite.&nbsp;Older cannabis users, relative to non-users, had&nbsp;significantly greater neuronal communication between the cerebellum and hippocampus.</p>
<p><strong>Why?</strong> Age-related changes in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/22/07/28272841/the-endocannabinoid-system-101-the-basics-made-easy" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">endocannabinoid system</a>&nbsp;(ECS) include a decrease in the number of cannabinoid receptors throughout the brain.&nbsp;The ECS,&nbsp;a significant aspect of our human physiology that&nbsp;helps maintain homeostasis,&nbsp;is a complex cell-signaling system in the brain and body that interacts with just about all of our&nbsp;other body systems.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Which means? </strong>During normal aging, the decline in cannabinoid receptors correlates with increased levels of inflammation in these brain regions causing a loss of neurons in the hippocampus, which is critical for learning and&nbsp;memory.&nbsp;This, in short, explains age-related memory impairment.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>"Oh, I believe that," Cynthia told Benzinga. "While I never consumed for a full shift before going to work, I'm convinced that marijuana has helped keep me and my mind sharp as I aged. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but for people of my generation there's nothing better."</p>

It's 4/20, Do You Know Where Your Parents Are?

<p>The Detroit Lions finished with one of their best records in years for the 2023 season, which means they will have a lower pick in the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/nfldraft/"> 2024 NFL Draft.</a></p>
<p>Would General Manager<strong> Brad Holmes</strong> consider trading out of the first round with the 2024 NFL Draft taking place in Detroit?</p>
<p><strong>What Happened: </strong>Detroit Lions fans might not like the answer given by Holmes to the media on scenarios that could see the Lions trade their 29<sup>th</sup> overall first-round pick and move back in the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/nfldraft/detroit-live-events/">2024 NFL Draft.</a></p>
<p>Holmes was asked about a scenario of trading out of the first round and didn't hesitate to say he will do what is best for the franchise.</p>
<p>"We have to do the right thing for the organization," Holmes said, as <a href="https://www.detroitlions.com/news/holmes-prepared-to-apologize-to-fans-if-lions-trade-out-of-first-round">reported </a>by Lions writer Mike O'Hara.</p>
<p>Holmes said while he would consider trading out of the first round, it's important to note that, with the draft taking place in Detroit, there might be a greater chance of upsetting the fans if he makes such a move.</p>
<p>A trade out of the first round could mean that any Lions fans in attendance Thursday will have spent all day downtown to watch other teams take their players in the draft.</p>
<p>Holmes said he would send out a "PSA and apologize" if he trades out of the first round.</p>
<p>"Hopefully, our fans will forgive us. We won't expect immediate forgiveness right then and there, but hopefully when the season starts."</p>
<p>Detroit was announced as the host city for the NFL Draft back in 2022.</p>
<p>"Another opportunity for our franchise and our city and just for the world to kind of migrate to downtown Detroit," Holmes said earlier this week.</p>

<p><strong>Why It's Important:</strong> Holmes is no stranger to trading in the NFL Draft. Since joining as the Lions GM in 2021, Holmes has taken part in several drafts for the team and is known for dealmaking.</p>
<p>This includes the 2023 NFL Draft, which saw the Lions trade their sixth overall pick, acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in the <strong>Matthew Stafford</strong> trade. The Lions traded the sixth pick to the Arizona Cardinals and received back the 12<sup>th</sup>, 34<sup>th</sup> and 168<sup>th</sup> overall picks.</p>
<p>Lions fans will remember the 2023 Draft saw several impact players taken including running back <strong>Jahymyr Gibbs </strong>with the 12<sup>th</sup> pick and tight end<strong> Sam LaPorta </strong>with the 34<sup>th</sup> pick. Both rookies played in the 2023 NFL season and were among the top first-year players, finishing third and fourth, respectively, in NFC offensive rookie of the year voting.</p>
<p>The 12-5 record and appearance in the NFC Championship game gives the Lions the 29<sup>th</sup> overall pick, one of their lowest earned in years.</p>
<p>The Lions also have the 61<sup>st</sup> overall pick and 73<sup>rd</sup>, but have only those three picks in the first four rounds, with no fourth-round pick this year. This could prompt Holmes to be open to trades to pick up additional picks. The Lions also have a fifth-round pick, two sixth-round picks and a seventh-round pick, for seven overall picks.</p>
<p>In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Lions had eight picks, including two first-round picks and two second-round picks.</p>
<p>The Lions have had a first round pick in every season since 1994, with 1993 being the last year they didn't select a player in the first round.</p>
<p>The Lions&#8217; top needs by position include cornerback, offensive line and wide receiver. The Lions last took a wide receiver in the first round of 2022 (<strong>Jameson Williams</strong>) and a cornerback in the first round of 2020 (<strong>Jeff Okudah</strong>). For the offensive line, the Lions last took a guard or center in the first round in 2018 with <strong>Frank Ragnow,</strong> and last took an offensive tackle in the first round in 2021 with <strong>Penei Sewell.</strong> Of these four players, three are still with the Lions.</p>

<p>Sen.<strong> Elizabeth Warren</strong> (D-Mass.) voiced her support for a Department of Justice antitrust case against leading technology company <strong>Apple Inc</strong> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>), which was <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/03/37905532/apple-slams-dangerous-doj-lawsuit-tim-cooks-iphone-suggestion-returns-to-haunt-and-potential-google">announced last month.</a></p>
<p>In comments shared on social media, Warren took aim at the smartphone market segment of Apple.</p>
<p><strong>What Happened:</strong> Apple is one of the largest smartphone companies in the world and in 2023 had seven of the top 10 selling smartphones globally <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/02/37245799/apple-dominates-2023-smartphone-list-with-7-of-top-10-models-why-its-important-for-iphone-growth">according to a report.</a></p>
<p>According to Warren, Apple has a monopoly in the smartphone market and one of the company's key features could be ruining friendships and relationships.</p>
<p>"Green texts on iPhones, they're ruining relationships," Warren <a href="https://twitter.com/SenWarren/status/1781086997014040759">said </a>in a video posted on X.</p>
<p>The green texts refer to the texts that come from non-Apple phones in green bubbles versus the blue bubbles displayed by iPhone users.</p>
<p>"Non iPhone users everywhere are being excluded from group texts."</p>
<p>Warren said that this means some non-Apple smartphone users are not being included in chats about vacation plans, group chats or chats with other sports fans.</p>
<p>"And who's to blame here? Apple."</p>
<p>Warren said that the green vs. blue bubble text icons are just one example of the dirty tactics used by Apple to "keep a stranglehold on the smartphone market."</p>
<p>"Apple has used its monopoly on the smartphone to lock Americans into services and amass billions of dollars in profits."</p>
<p>Warren mentioned that apps that would let Google users use iMessage and get blue texts were <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/12/36165068/apple-pulls-plug-on-imessage-for-android-app-beeper-mini-its-back-to-green-bubbles-now-for-android-u">blocked by Apple.</a></p>

<p>Gulf Resources, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GURE#NASDAQ">GURE</a>) ("Gulf Resources" or the "Company"), a leading manufacturer of bromine, crude salt and specialty chemical products in China, today announced that it received a notice (the "Notice") from the Listing Qualifications Department of The Nasdaq Stock Market LLC ("Nasdaq") notifying the Company that due to the Company's failure to timely file its Annual Report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2023 (the "2023 Form 10-K"), with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the "SEC"), the Company is not in compliance with Nasdaq's continued listing requirements under Nasdaq Listing Rule 5250(c)(1) (the "Rule"), which requires the timely filing of all required periodic reports with the SEC.<br /><br />&nbsp;</p>
<p>The Notice has no immediate effect on the listing of the Company's common stock on Nasdaq. Under the Nasdaq rules, the Company has 60 calendar days, or until June 17, 2024, to file the 2023 Form 10-K or to submit to Nasdaq a plan to regain compliance with the Nasdaq Listing Rule. If the Company submits a plan to Nasdaq and Nasdaq accepts the plan, Nasdaq can grant an exception of up to 180 calendar days from the filing's due date, or until October 14, 2024, to regain compliance. If the Company fails to timely regain compliance with Nasdaq Listing Rule 5250(c)(1), the Company's common stock will be subject to delisting from Nasdaq.</p>
<p>The Company continues to work diligently to complete the 2023 Form 10-K and currently intends to file the 2023 Form 10-K by no later than June 10, 2024.</p>

<p>Lifecore Biomedical, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LFCR#NASDAQ">LFCR</a>) (the "Company") announced today that, on April 15, 2024, the Company received a notification letter (the "Notice") from the Listing Qualifications Department of The Nasdaq Stock Market LLC ("Nasdaq") indicating that, as a result of the Company's delay in filing its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the fiscal quarter ended February 25, 2024 (the "Q3 Form 10-Q") and its continued delay in filing its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the quarterly periods ended August 27, 2023 and November 29, 2023 (the "Q1 Form 10-Q" and "Q2 Form 10-Q," respectively, and together with the Q3 Form 10-Q, the "Filings") with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the "SEC"), the Company continues not to be in compliance with the requirements for continued listing under Nasdaq Listing Rule 5250(c)(1) (the "Listing Rule"), and that the Nasdaq Hearings Panel would consider the delinquency in the filing of the Q3 Form 10-Q in rendering its determination regarding the Company's continued listing on Nasdaq Global Select Market.<br /><br />&nbsp;</p>

The Company appealed the Staff Delisting Determination, and, on April 16, 2024, the Company appeared for the hearing in which the Company requested a further stay of any suspension or delisting action to enable the Company to regain compliance with the Listing Rule. The Nasdaq Hearings Panel has not yet issued its decision, although the Company anticipates that a decision will be forthcoming.</p>
<p>The Company continues to work diligently to complete the Filings and intends to file the Filings as promptly as possible to regain compliance under the Listing Rule. However, there can be no assurance that such periodic reports will be filed before the expiration of any stay granted by Nasdaq, or that the Nasdaq Hearing Panel will grant the Company's request for a further stay of any suspension or delisting action</p>

That month, Elite filed <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/news/3958122-elite-pharmaceuticals-seeks-fda-approval-generic-antimetabolite-drug?source=content_type%3Areact%7Csection%3Asummary%7Csection_asset%3Aall_news%7Cfirst_level_url%3Asymbol%7Cbutton%3ATitle%7Clock_status%3ANo%7Cline%3A2" target="_blank">an abbreviated new drug application (or ANDA)</a> for a generic antimetabolite drug.</p>
<p>The press release announcing this news implies that this treatment, if it obtains full Food and Drug Administration (or FDA) approval, could produce tens of millions in additional annual revenue. Not bad, considering that Elite currently generates around <a href="https://dd7pmep5szm19.cloudfront.net/2258/0001493152-22-018108.htm#Gk_006" target="_blank">$32.2 million in annual sales</a>.</p>

<p><strong>Exro Technologies</strong> (OTCMKTS:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/exrof-stock-quote/"><strong>EXROF</strong></a>) is one of the OTC stocks with growth potential. Based in Canada, the company&nbsp;<a href="https://www.google.com/finance/quote/EXROF:OTCMKTS?hl=en" target="_blank">develops and commercializes power electronics</a> used in both electric vehicles (or EVs) and battery systems.&nbsp;With big exposure to the EV megatrend, it&rsquo;s no shock that EXROF stock went on a heater during the EV stock bubble of late 2020 and early 2021. Since then, however, shares have tumbled from prices above $5 per share, to around $1.60 per share today. So, after this big plunge, why make Exro a buy?</p>
<p>Despite the poor performance of the stock over the past two years, the company keeps charging ahead. With <a href="https://files.exro.com/investors/Exro-2023-Q2-Corporate-Presentation-IR.pdf" target="_blank">multiple partnerships in place with manufacturers</a>, Exro Technologies is only starting to enter the revenue stage. With a market cap of just $268 million, it may not take much commercialization success to justify a rebound for this stock.</p>

<p><strong>MariMed</strong> (OTCMKTS:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/mrmd-stock-quote/"><strong>MRMD</strong></a>) is another of the OTC stocks with high potential that <a href="https://investorplace.com/2023/05/7-best-penny-stocks-under-1-to-buy-in-may-2023/" target="_blank">I have talked about in recent months</a>. An integrated cannabis company operating in multiple U.S. states, MRMD stands out among names in this still-emerging sector.</p>
<p>Why? In large part, because the company would likely be an ideal acquisition candidate, in the event that cannabis is fully legalized on the U.S. federal level. Besides having a wide footprint, MariMed is also consistently profitable. That said, takeover potential isn&rsquo;t the only thing that makes this one of the OTC stocks with high potential.</p>
<p>Even if federal legalization efforts continued to be delayed, MRMD stock could still make its way to higher prices. Although profitability has <a href="https://ir.marimedinc.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/218/marimed-reports-first-quarter-2023-earnings" target="_blank">recently declined</a>, further expansion efforts could help make up the difference, and then some. Besides opening and acquiring new dispensaries, MariMed is also at work expanding its product offerings.</p>

<h2>NewLake Capital Partners (NLCP)</h2>

<p>Like MRMD, <strong>NewLake Capital Partners</strong> (OTCMKTS:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/nlcp-stock-quote/"><strong>NLCP</strong></a>) is another OTC gem involved in the cannabis space. However, this company is not a cannabis producer, wholesaler, or retailer.&nbsp;Instead, this is a real estate investment trust (or REIT) that owns industrial space leased out to cannabis producers. Over the past year, cannabis REITs have experienced massive price declines. Mostly, due to rising concerns like rising vacancy rates, tenant non-payments, which many worry could worsen as the economic slowdown continues.</p>
<p>However, while these issues have had <a href="https://ir.newlake.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/68/newlake-capital-partners-reports-first-quarter-2023" target="_blank">a negative impact on this REIT&rsquo;s fiscal performance</a>, the &ldquo;worst case scenario&rdquo; may already be priced-in. NLCP stock trades for a low multiple (7.4) of its funds from operation (a metric commonly used to assess REIT profitability). Big declines also mean that NLCP is now one of the high yield OTC stocks. NewLake currently has a forward dividend yield of 12.1%.</p>

<p>As I put it back in April, POSaBIT (OTCMKTS:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/posaf-stock-quote/"><strong>POSAF</strong></a>) is <a href="https://investorplace.com/2023/04/the-7-best-cannabis-stocks-to-buy-for-april-2023/" target="_blank">a &ldquo;cannabis adjacent&rdquo; stock</a>. This fintech firm provides payment services to U.S. state-licensed dispensaries. As long as federal laws on cannabis remain unchanged, companies like this one have this market to themselves.</p>
<p>With this, one can argue that, rather than a legalization play, POSAF stock instead is a wager that U.S. federal legalization never arrives, enabling this small company to become a leader in this niche. Although shares have moved slightly lower in the past year, there may be the potential for bullishness about this stock to pick back up.</p>
<p>After experiencing strong growth during 2022, POSaBIT has reached profitability. Through both additional organic growth, as well as through acquisitions (such as its recent deal for competitor <a href="https://www.posabit.com/news/2023/04/03/posabit-to-acquire-hypur" target="_blank">Hypur</a>), the company could &ldquo;level up&rdquo; on its recent success, with shares continuing to climb in tandem with earnings growth.</p>
