Meta’s Muse Downloads Top 10 Million, Join Elite Company: Here’s the 2 Non-Game Apps to Hit Same Milestone

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) saw such strong demand for its Muse AI agent that the company’s Muse app did something now only accomplished 12 times in the United States. Here’s a look at the history made and what happened the other times the feat was accomplished.

Meta’s Muse Hits 10 Million in 40 Days

Meta currently has a hit on its hands with Muse, which recently passed the 10 million download milestone in the United States.

This marks the 12th time an app has hit the milestone in the United States in only 40 days, according to data from Sensor Tower.

The app has passed 10.2 million downloads, and as a potential sign of Muse’s strength, the rise in downloads comes as ChatGPT app installs in the U.S. have fallen 25%, according to Sensor Tower.

Muse was a big part of Meta’s recent quarterly results and commentary, and analysts are excited about the monetization opportunities.

One of the big questions is if the momentum for downloads will continue, and for that we look at the list of apps that previously reached the milestone.

10 Million in 40 Days Club

Sensor Tower said Meta’s Muse is the 12th app to reach the 10 million downloads-in-40-days milestone. We don’t know the full list, but TechCrunch reports that Muse is only the third non-gaming app to reach the milestone.

The other non-gaming apps to hit the milestone are Meta’s Threads, which hit it last in July 2023, and Disney+, the streaming app from The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS).

Games that hit the milestone include "Fortnite," "PUBG Mobile," and "Pokemon Go."

Those games remain available today, though their download growth has slowed since their launch peaks.

The question for Meta is whether Muse can sustain that early momentum.

Threads hit the milestone in July 2023 and now has over 500 million monthly active users globally, but in the United States that total is estimated closer to 34 million.

Despite its global user base, Threads’ U.S. audience remains a fraction of its worldwide total.

Disney no longer breaks out its subscriber figures, but it has more than 59 million in the United States and Canada. Disney+ launched its app in November 2019.

For some of these apps, they hit 10 million downloads quickly, then growth slowed.

For Meta, the key will be to keep gaining new Muse users while also monetizing the ones it has.
