Amazon Opens Seller Data to Claude Days After Blocking Meta’s Muse

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is opening its seller platform to Anthropic‘s Claude, just days after blocking Muse, the shopping agent from Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META), from its retail site.

The two moves show where Amazon is drawing the line on outside AI agents. Sellers can connect approved tools directly to their businesses, while agents that access Amazon’s retail site without permission may get shut out.

Claude Gets Access to Amazon Sellers

Amazon announced Wednesday that U.S. sellers can connect their accounts directly to Claude through its new Selling Partner plugin.

Claude can access a seller’s catalog, real-time performance metrics and recommendations. The technology can also help with tasks such as checking inventory, changing prices and preparing shipments, with sellers retaining approval over actions.

The move lets merchants bring Amazon business data into an external AI assistant rather than working entirely within Seller Central.

Why Amazon Blocked Muse

Amazon blocked Meta’s Muse earlier this week after saying the company had not received permission for the agent to access its retail site.

Amazon also said Muse did not identify itself while browsing and raised concerns over customer credentials. Meta says Muse cannot see users’ passwords or payment information.

Claude, by contrast, enters through an Amazon-built connection.

Amazon also has deep ties to Anthropic. It has invested $13 billion in the maker of Claude and could invest another $20 billion tied to commercial milestones, while Anthropic has committed to spending more than $100 billion on AWS technologies over the next decade.

Traders See Anthropic Leading AI Models

Prediction-market traders are pricing in a wide gap between Anthropic and Meta in terms of pure model performance.

Polymarket gives Anthropic a 74% chance of owning the top-ranked AI model at the end of 2026, compared with 13% for OpenAI, 10% for Google and 2% for Meta. More than $1.4 million has traded on the market.

Meta shares have climbed more than 20% since Muse launched Sept. 8, adding roughly $200 billion in market value as investors bet the agent could become a major consumer product.

Meta is also pushing Muse deeper into commerce, adding shopping partners including Walmart, Sephora and Best Buy even as Amazon keeps it off its retail site.
