Binance (CRYPTO: BNB) Co-CEO Richard Teng reacted with interest on Tuesday to speculation that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will add stablecoin support on Apple Pay.
Apple Set to Welcome Stablecoins?
“Stablecoins on billions of devices?” Teng posted on X, paired with a wide-eyed emoji.
Curiosity grew after Coin Bureau reported that Apple had posted a job listing seeking “stablecoin expertise” for its Apple Pay team.
Notably, the application, posted on Aug. 26, did not mention stablecoins, cryptocurrency or blockchain infrastructure—an observation echoed by Mike MacCana, a Solana (CRYPTO: SOL) software developer.
The role involves partnering with the Apple Card and Apple Cash teams to shape long-term strategy, identify growth and support business planning across wallets, payments, and commerce opportunities.
Apple didn’t immediately return Benzinga’s request for comment.
Apple’s Crypto Stance
Apple Pay does not natively support stablecoins, including USDC (CRYPTO: USDC), for direct consumer spending. However, you can use stablecoins indirectly through third-party cryptocurrency debit cards and payment networks like Mesh.
Apple’s former CEO Tim Cook said in 2021 that the company doesn’t invest in cryptocurrency because consumers do not buy AAPL stock for cryptocurrency exposure. He, however, admitted to owning cryptocurrency personally.
Billionaire Tim Draper urged Apple to consider Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) exposure, citing Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) $1.6 billion BTC holdings as an example.
Price Action: Apple shares rose 0.03% in after-hours trading, according to Benzinga Pro. The stock closed 0.23% higher at $339.75 during Tuesday’s regular trading session. Year to date, the stock has rallied nearly 25%.
