You’ve made sure your whole family has health insurance, but did you really remember everyone? What about your dog or cat? Pet insurance is important because one day something may happen to your beloved furry friend that’s just too expensive to fix. What are you going to do on that day? If you have pet insurance, the decision is easy.

Founded in 2012, ManyPets Inc. pet insurance covers your dog or cat in case of accident or illness. Costs vary and depend on the exact type of coverage you choose. There are no networks, so if you have a particular veterinarian in mind, or want to keep the one you have, it’s no problem. Because you pay the doctor at the time of treatment and submit a claim to ManyPets for reimbursement, there is no doctor approval process.

Founded in the U.K., ManyPets is just now rolling out in the United States. It’s currently available in 18 states with plans to add more. ManyPets is underwritten by the Accredited Surety and Casualty Co.

Do you have a fur baby that you consider part of the family? Many pet owners view their pets as family members, so it makes sense to ensure that in the event of an illness or emergency, the vet bill will be covered. But finding the right pet insurance company can be difficult. Benzina provides this ManyPets pet insurance review to help you choose the right pet insurance plan and company.

ManyPets Policy Options

While ManyPets offers several different deductible amounts and reimbursement levels, there’s only one accident and illness plan. Options are affordable, yet limited.

Minimum coverageN/A
Maximum coverageUnlimited
Eligible ages8 weeks to 14 years
Eligible animalsDog and cats
Number of plan options1 (plus additional wellness plan)

The ManyPets accident and illness plan covers a wide array of conditions. While many pet insurance companies place an annual limit on benefits, not so for ManyPets. With ManyPets, there is no maximum annual limit.

What’s Covered

Expenses covered under the policy include:

  • Accidents such as poisoning and broken bones
  • Illnesses such as an ear infection and cancer
  • Exam and consultations fees
  • Prescription medications
  • Surgeries
  • Treatments such as acupuncture and chiropractic care
  • Medically necessary supplies
  • Lab work
  • X-rays
  • MRIs
  • Blood tests
  • Hospitalizations

What’s not Covered

  • Pre-existing conditions (pre-existing conditions are accepted if your pet is symptom free for 18 months or more)
  • Cosmetic or elective procedures
  • Medications, treatments or supplements that aren't approved by the Food and Drug Administration
  • Prescription diets
  • Behavioral therapy

Wellness Plan

ManyPets also offers a wellness plan. This plan pays for routine and preventative care. For customers who don’t like to leave anything to chance, the wellness add-on is a great option. Benefits include:

  • Wellness exams
  • Routine vaccinations
  • Flea, tick and heartworm prevention
  • Dental cleaning
  • Holistic care such as treatments and supplements to help with anxiety, joint care and coat issues

Waiting Period

For claims of accident and illness, all pet insurance companies have a waiting period. ManyPets is no different. ManyPets sets its waiting period at 15 days for accidents and illness. While this is equal to some other companies, it’s longer than others. Companies like Lemonade Inc. and Embrace offer just a two-day waiting period.

There is one exception. If you're switching from another pet insurance company, the waiting period is reduced to just 24 hours because you were previously insured.

Enrollment ages begin at 8 weeks and end at 14 years.

ManyPets Customer Service

Nothing fancy here, but the company is good about responding to phone calls and emails. Financial ratings are based on ManyPet’s underwriting company, Accredited Surety and Casualty Inc.

ManyPets Pricing

Getting a price quote for your dog or cat is easy. In fact, it’s downright fun. All it takes is a few clicks to answer some basic questions and you’ve got your price quote. A sample quote returned the following prices for both dogs and cats.

Sample Dog Insurance Quote

Furry friend’s name: Bowzer
Woof or meow: Woof
Good boy or good girl: Good girl
Breed and size: Mixed breed, large (60 pounds)
Age: 3 years
ZIP code: 77027

Calculating…

Bowzer’s Plan - What’s Covered

Accident and illness: $31.86 per month buys 90% reimbursement with a $250 deductible.

  • Unexpected accidents or illnesses. Digestive issues, cancer, diabetes, infections, fractures, arthritis, dental and everything in between
  • Exams and tests. Blood tests, X-rays, MRIs, ultrasounds, CT-scans, urinalysis and more
  • Medications. Any vet-prescribed meds

  • Vet visits. No in-network restrictions. ManyPets covers bills from any licensed-vet you choose
  • Pre-existing conditions. ManyPets covers pre-existing conditions, but only if your pet has been symptom- and treatment-free for 18 months
  • Waiting period. ManyPets starts covering accident or illness claims 15 days after the start of your policy.
  • Preventive & wellness. This quote doesn’t cover routine or preventive care, but you can add its wellness plan.

Sample Cat Insurance Quote

The test quote for a cat returned:

Furry friend’s name: Sabrina
Woof or meow: Meow
Good boy or good girl: Good girl
Breed: Burmese
Age: 3 years
ZIP code: 77027

Sabrina’s Plan

Accident and illness: $18.78 per month buys 90% reimbursement with a $250 deductible.

ManyPets works on a fee-reimbursement schedule, meaning you pay the vet then submit your bill for reimbursement. Reimbursements take typically 10 days, but sometimes get processed in as little as 48 hours. Rates depend on the amount of your deductible and reimbursement schedule. Deductible amounts offered include:

  • $100
  • $250
  • $500

ManyPets offers reimbursement levels at 80%, 90% and, in some circumstances, 100%.

ManyPets Application Experience

Applying for ManyPets coverage is easy. Go online and fill out the form. The company just rolled out services in the United States so there is not yet a mobile app. A 15-day waiting period applies to all applications unless you’re transferring from another pet insurance company.

ManyPets vs Competitors

ManyPets is often more expensive than other pet insurance plans. Compared to PetFirst, for example, the above price quote for Bowzer at $31.86 per month would be $23 to $27 at PetFirst. While premiums are higher, however, it’s important to note that PetFirst has annual limits, in this case, $2,000 for Bowser and $5,000 for Sabrina. Because ManyPets has no annual limit, premiums tend to be higher, but the return on investment is often greater.

How does ManyPets stack up against the competition? Check it out. (Always be aware that ManyPets has no annual limits when comparing prices.)

ManyPets Overall

When it comes to rating the company overall, ManyPets trails the pack. ManyPets pet insurance is just now rolling out in the United States, having established itself in 18 states in 2021. The company expects to be up and running in all 50 states in the near future.

Because of limited availability, ManyPets rates just a 3.8 out of 5 stars. The company has also yet to roll out a mobile app, but online applications are available through the company website. As far as information goes, the website seems to be lacking, but quotes are quick and easy.
