Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ) stock fell more than 4% Monday as investors pulled back from growth stocks. The Nasdaq was down 1.23%, while the S&P 500 fell 0.77%.
Only three of the 11 S&P 500 sectors were higher Monday. Defensive groups held up better, with consumer staples up 0.19% and health care gaining 0.13%.
Communication services fell 1.50%, making it the worst-performing sector. Technology dropped 1.16%, while the Russell 2000 declined 0.99%.
Energy was one of the few bright spots, gaining 0.69%. The moves pointed to a rotation away from mega-cap growth stocks.
Meta Expands Into Enterprise AI
Separately, Meta on Monday launched Meta Enterprise Platform, a new business focused on helping companies deploy the social media giant’s artificial intelligence tools.
Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg called the platform the company’s “next major pillar.” He said the initiative will combine Meta’s AI models, agents and computing infrastructure with its existing relationships with businesses.
Meta Enterprise Platform will initially offer businesses and developers access to Meta’s broader AI technology stack.
That includes the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code. Meta said the tools will help companies use AI to grow their businesses and improve operations.
The move expands Meta’s AI ambitions beyond consumer products, advertising and social media. It also puts the company deeper into the market for enterprise AI tools and services.
Zuckerberg said Meta already serves billions of consumers and helps hundreds of millions of businesses reach customers.
CJ Desai To Lead New Platform
Meta named Chirantan “CJ” Desai chief enterprise platform officer. He will report directly to Zuckerberg.
Desai joins Meta from MongoDB Inc., where he served as president and CEO. He previously led product and engineering at Cloudflare Inc. and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, Inc., including as president and chief operating officer.
Zuckerberg highlighted Desai’s experience across AI, infrastructure, business software and cybersecurity.
Meta Targets Business AI Market
Desai said Meta Enterprise Platform will focus on turning the company’s AI stack into products and services that businesses can deploy directly.
He added that security and privacy will be built into the platform from the start, following Meta’s approach with its Muse technology.
Meta said its longer-term goal is to become a platform businesses use to scale operations as AI reshapes customer service, innovation and other corporate functions.
Technical Analysis
Despite Monday’s decline, Meta remained above several key moving averages.
The stock was about 7.9% above its 20-day simple moving average of $667.99 and roughly 15% above its 200-day SMA of $626.79.
However, the 50-day SMA remained below the 200-day SMA. That bearish technical pattern, known as a “death cross,” formed in December 2025.
Momentum indicators were more constructive. Meta’s MACD remained above its signal line, while the histogram was positive. That suggests selling momentum has eased from the previous downswing.
Traders may watch resistance near $744. Support sits around $577 on a deeper pullback.
