LyondellBasell Industries NV is an independent chemical company incorporated under Dutch law on October 15, 2009. The Company along with its subsidiaries is a manufacturer of chemicals and polymers, a refiner of crude oil, a producer of gasoline blending components and a developer and licensor of technologies for the production of polymers. The Company's operations are managed through five operating segments: Olefins and Polyolefins-Americas; Olefins and Polyolefins-Europe, Asia, and International; Intermediates and Derivatives; Refining; and Technology. The Olefins and Polyolefins-Americas segment produces and markets olefins, including ethylene and ethylene co-products, and polyolefins. The Olefins and Polyolefins-Europe, Asia, and International segment produces and markets olefins, including ethylene and ethylene co-products, polyolefins and specialty products, including polybutene-1 and polypropylene compounds. The Intermediates and Derivatives segment produces and markets propylene oxide and its co-products and derivatives, acetyls, including methanol, ethylene oxide and its derivatives, ethanol and oxygenated fuels, or oxyfuels. The Refining segment refines heavy, high-sulfur crude oils and other crude oils of varied types and sources available on the U.S. Gulf Coast. The Technology segment develops and licenses chemical and polyolefin process technologies and manufactures and sells polyolefin catalysts. The Company's olefins includes ethylene used as a raw material to manufacture polyethylene, ethylene oxide, ethanol, ethylene dichloride, styrene, vinyl acetate monomer and other products; propylene used to produce PP, acrylonitrile, propylene oxide and other products; and Butadiene used to manufacture styrene-butadiene rubber and polybutadiene rubber, which are used in the manufacture of tires, hoses, gaskets and other rubber products. The Company's polyolefins include HDPE used to manufacture grocery, merchandise and trash bags; food containers for items from frozen desserts to margarine; plastic caps and closures; liners for boxes of cereal and crackers; plastic drink cups and toys; dairy crates; bread trays; pails for items from paint to fresh fruits and vegetables; safety equipment; LDPE used to manufacture food packaging films; plastic bottles for packaging food and personal care items; dry cleaning bags; ice bags; pallet shrink wrap; heavy-duty bags for mulch and potting soil; boil-in-bags; coatings on flexible packaging products; and coatings on paper board such as milk cartons; LLDPE used to manufacture garbage and lawn-leaf bags; industrial can liners; housewares; lids for coffee cans and margarine tubs; and PP used to manufacture fibers for carpets, rugs and upholstery; housewares; medical products; automotive interior trim, fascia, running boards, battery cases, and bumpers; toys and sporting goods; fishing tackle boxes; and bottle caps and closures. Its Specialty Polyolefins includes PP compounds used to manufacture automotive interior and exterior trims, dashboards, bumpers and under-hood applications; base material for products and parts; Catalloy process resins used in modifying polymer properties in film applications and molded products; for specialty films, geomembrane liners, and roofing materials; in bitumen modification for roofing and asphalt applications; and for automotive bumpers; and PB-1 resins used in flexible pipes, resins for seal-peel film, film modification, hot melt applications, consumer packaging and adhesives. Its Aromatics include Benzene used to produce styrene, phenol and cyclohexane. It owns registered and unregistered trademarks including the LyondellBasell, Lyondell and Equistar trade names. The Company is subject to national, state, local and foreign environmental laws, regulations, directives, rules and ordinances.
