Microsoft Announces The End Of Xbox 360's Online Store In 2024

Microsoft Corporation MSFT announced plans to terminate its Xbox 360 online store and marketplace in 2024.

What Happened: Microsoft will cease operating the Xbox 360 Store and Xbox 360 Marketplace on July 29, 2024, reported Reuters Thursday.

The move aligns with the company’s focus on its latest consoles and Game Pass subscription service.

Gamers using the old console will no longer be able to purchase and download new games. However, the tech giant will allow users to continue playing already purchased Xbox 360 games and other compatible older titles.

Why It's Important: Microsoft halted the production of the Xbox 360 in 2016 and launched the Xbox Game Pass a year later. This service offers subscription-based gaming on consoles and Windows platforms. The company will also remove the Movies & TV app from the older console.

The Xbox 360 is widely recognized as one of the most successful gaming consoles in history, competing closely with Sony’s PlayStation 3
