Viking Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VKTX#NASDAQ">VKTX</a>) reported its first-quarter financial results after the bell Wednesday. The Details: Viking Therapeutics reported quarterly losses of 26 cents per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of losses of 28 cents by 7.14%. 
Research and development expenses were $24.1 million for the first quarter, compared to $11 million for the same period in 2023. The increase was primarily due to increased expenses related to manufacturing for the company&#8217;s drug candidates, pre-clinical studies, clinical studies, stock-based compensation, salaries and benefits and services provided by third-party consultants.
Viking ended the first quarter with cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments of $963 million, compared to $362 million as of Dec. 31, 2023. The first quarter balance reflects the receipt of approximately $630 million in gross proceeds from the company&#8217;s public offering of common stock which closed on March 4, 2024.
&#8220;The first quarter of 2024 was an exceptional period for Viking,&#8221; stated Brian Lian, Ph.D., president and CEO of Viking. &#8220;During the quarter, the company reported positive top-line results from the Phase 2 VENTURE study of subcutaneous VK2735 in obesity and encouraging initial data from a Phase 1 study of our novel tablet formulation of this compound. <h1 class="wp-block-heading">What Happened With Meta?</h1>
Meta beat analyst estimates on the top and bottom lines, reporting first-quarter revenue of $36.455 billion versus estimates of $36.156 billion and EPS of $4.71 versus estimates of $4.33, per <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>.
Despite topping estimates, the stock is tanking in after-hours trading, likely due to the company&#8217;s guidance. Meta said it expects second-quarter revenue to be in the range of&nbsp;$36.5 billion to $39 billion versus estimates of $38.3 billion. 
The company raised its expense outlook for the year from a range of $94 billion to $99 billion to a new range of $96 billion to $99 billion. Meta also raised its capital expenditures forecast from a range of $30 billion to $37 billion to a new range of $35 billion to $40 billion as the company continues to accelerate its infrastructure investments to support its AI roadmap.
&#8220;While we are not providing&nbsp;guidance&nbsp;for years beyond 2024, we expect capital expenditures will continue to increase next year as we invest aggressively to support our ambitious AI research and product development efforts,&#8221; the company said. 
Meta also noted that it expects operating losses to &#8220;increase meaningfully&#8221; year-over-year for its Reality Labs division. Meta shares were down more than 12% at the last check.

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">What To Expect From GOOG, SNAP, PINS</h1>
Alphabet shares often move in sympathy with Meta as both companies generate significant revenue from advertising. Alphabet is scheduled to report its first-quarter financial results after the market close on Thursday. The company is expected to report EPS of $1.51 on revenue of $78.594 billion, per <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>.
Snap, Pinterest and Meta all operate social media platforms. Snap and Pinterest are due to report earnings within the next week.
Snap will report its first-quarter results on Thursday. Analysts are forecasting a loss of 5 cents per share and revenue of $1.119 billion. Pinterest is set to report on April 30. The company is expected to report EPS of 13 cents on revenue of $699.872 million.

UTime Ltd Files For Mixed Shelf Offering Of Up To $500M

AmWest Funding Corporation ("AmWest"), funds managed by Ares Management Corporation's (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ARES#NYSE">ARES</a>) ("Ares") Alternative Credit strategy, and Park Capital Management ("Park Capital") announced today that AmWest and Ares have finalized a joint venture to purchase and invest in Non-QM loans, sourced and serviced by AmWest. The joint venture will seek to capitalize on AmWest's strong position as a leading mortgage originator and servicer with over $15 billion of Non-QM mortgage originations since inception, primarily sourced via its national wholesale platform.
"We are pleased to enter into this partnership with Ares, which will allow us to grow our business and further capitalize on the current market environment," said William Park, Founder and Chairman of AmWest. "We pride ourselves in the trusted brand that we have built and look forward to continuing to support mortgage brokers and homebuyers with exceptional products and service."

Ares will provide 90% of the joint venture's capital with AmWest providing the remaining 10%. AmWest has securitized a combined $3.1 billion in unpaid principal balance in the last 3 years. The joint venture will seek to securitize the mortgage loans using the HOMES and PRKCM shelves.

The Ares Alternative Credit strategy is one of the largest investors in asset based credit managing approximately $33.9 billion in assets under management as of December 31, 2023. The team invests across the capital structure and seeks opportunities in specialty finance, lender finance, loan portfolios, equipment leasing, structured products, net lease, cash flow streams (royalties, licensing, management fees) and other asset-focused investments.
