Metro AG (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/mttry#OTC">MTTRY</a>) reported a drop in its first fiscal quarter profit, due to a weak rouble.
Metro's quarterly net profit slipped to EUR404 million ($458 million), versus a year-ago profit of EUR451 million. The latest quarter earnings included exchange rate losses of EUR60 million.
Metro's core earnings before interest and tax dropped to 1.024 billion euros ($1.2 billion), versus 1.073 billion in the year-earlier period, in line with analysts' estimates.
Core profit before special items at its cash-and-carry business dropped 11% to 481 million, while core earnings at Media-Saturn consumer electronics business climbed 21% to 349 million.
Revenue in its Eastern Europe region declined 12%, while Western European revenue gained 1.1%. 
Earlier this month, Metro reported a 2.2% decline in its sales for the first quarter.

Metro AG(OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/mttry#OTC">MTTRY</a>) reported a drop in its sales in the last three months of 2014.
Metro's sales in the first quarter declined 2.2% to 18.3 billion euros ($21.65 billion) from 18.7 billion euros, versus analysts' expectations for a 2.8% drop.
Like-for-like sales gained 2.1%. Excluding currency effects and portfolio changes, preliminary sales for the quarter climbed 2.6%.
Same-store sales at Metro's consumer electronics business Media-Saturn rose 3.8%, while sales jumped 4.1% to 6.9 billion euros. Like-for-like sales at the cash-and-carry business gained 1.4%, while sales dropped 3.6% to 8.2 billion euros.
Metro shares gained 2.19% to close at $6.07 yesterday.

Germany's Metro AG (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/mttry#OTC">MTTRY</a>) swung to a profit in the fiscal full year.
The company posted a net profit for the year of EUR127 million ($157.96 million), versus a year-ago loss of EUR35 million.
Its adjusted profit attributable to shareholders climbed to 600 million euros compared to 481 million euros, while adjusted EPS jumped to 1.84 euros from 1.47 euros.
Its sales came in at EUR15.1 billion for the fourth quarter, while sales for the full fiscal year came in at EUR63 billion.
Metro shares fell 1.61% to close at $5.80 yesterday.

Germany's Metro AG (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/mttry#OTC">MTTRY</a>) reported a net loss in the second quarter. 

Metro posted a quarterly net loss of EUR20 million ($24.5 million loss), versus a year-ago net profit of EUR20 million.

Its sales rose 1.8% to EUR15.8 billion, while adjusted EBIT climbed to EUR314 million from EUR306 million. 

Metro's sales at its Cash &amp; Carry unit rose 2% y/y to EUR8 billion, while sales at Media-Saturn gained 4.5% y/y to EUR4.5 billion.

Metro Posts Q2 Net Loss

Metro AG (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/mttry#OTC">MTTRY</a>) posted a wider first-quarter net loss.

Metro posted a quarterly net loss of EUR82 million, versus a year-ago loss of EUR3 million. Its sales gained 2.2% y/y to EUR15.6 billion.

Metro's loss before interest and taxes came in at EUR9 million, versus earnings before interest and taxes of EUR142 million. Its loss per share came in at EUR0.25, versus a loss per share of EUR0.01.

Metro shares closed at $6.50 yesterday.

Metro Posts Wider Q1 Net Loss

Tiffany &amp; Co (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/tif#NYSE">TIF</a>) reported a decline in its Q4 profit. However, the company issued upbeat forecast for the current year. Tiffany projects fiscal-year revenue to rise 10%. It projects a profit of between $3.95 and $4.05 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $3.93 per share. Tiffany posted its quarterly net income at $178.4 million, or $1.39 per share, versus $181.2 million, or $1.41 per share, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $1.42 per share. Tiffany's quarterly net sales climbed 7%, excluding the impact of currency fluctuations. However, sales at stores open at least a year gained 5%.

DSW Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/dsw#NYSE">DSW</a>) posted a better-than-expected fourth-quarter profit. DSW's quarterly profit climbed to $19.4 million, or $0.37 per share, from $0.2 million, or $0.01 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding items, DSW earned $0.51 per share. Its revenue climbed around 10% to $513.7 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.49 per share on revenue of $511.2 million. DSW's same-store sales surged 5.6%. DSW projects 2012 earnings of $3.20 to $3.35 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $3.31 per share.

Jefferies Group Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/jef#NYSE">JEF</a>) reported a decline in its first-quarter profit. Jefferies' quarterly profit dropped to $77.1 million, or $0.33 per share, from $87.3 million, or $0.42 per share, in the year-earlier period. Its net revenue climbed to $758.1 million, versus just under $742 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.28 per share.

JA Solar Holdings Co Ltd (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/jaso#NASDAQ">JASO</a>) posted a loss in the fourth quarter. JA Solar posted a quarterly net loss of $68.2 million, or $0.39 per American Depositary Share (<a class="ticker" href="/stock/ads#">ADS</a>), versus a year-ago profit of $118.7 million, or $0.59 per ADS. JA Solar's revenue dropped 47% to $309.1 million.

Endeavour Silver Corp (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/exk#NYSE">EXK</a>) reported a loss in the fourth quarter. Endeavour Silver posted a quarterly net loss of $1.8 million, versus a year-ago net loss of $14.3 million. On an adjusted basis, Endeavour Silver posted a loss of $1.5 million, or $0.03 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $6.8 million, or $0.09 per share. Endeavour Silver's revenue dropped 39% to $17.5 million.

Acorn International Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/atv#NYSE">ATV</a>) reported a Q4 loss at $0.03 per share. Its net revenue surged 23.5% y/y to $87.5 million, from $70.8 million.

China Telecom Corp (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/cha#NYSE">CHA</a>) reported a 7.5% rise in its 2011 net profit. China Telecom's net profit for the period rose to CNY16.50 billion, from CNY15.35 billion, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting a net profit of CNY17.69 billion. China Telecom's revenue climbed 12% to CNY245.04 billion from CNY219.86 billion, versus analysts' estimates of CNY243.86 billion. China Telecom also recommended a final dividend of HK$0.085 per share.

Gem Diamonds Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/gmdmf#OTC">GMDMF</a>) reported a rise in its 2012 profit. For the full-year, Gem Diamonds posted a pretax profit at $155.7 million, versus $54.5 million, in the year-ago period. Attributable profit surged to $67.7 million from $20.2 million. Gem Diamonds' letseng production climbed 24% to 112,367 carats.

Metro's fourth quarter adjusted EBIT fell to EUR1.31 billion, from EUR1.50 billion in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting EBIT of EUR1.29 billion. Its quarterly net profit declined to EUR404 million from EUR674 million, versus analysts' estimates of EUR638 million.
