Sundar Pichai Is Using AI Agents to Track Google 24/7: 'Made All of Us... Be Better at What We Do'

Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google CEO Sundar Pichai relied on artificial intelligence agents to track developments across the technology giant, monitor computing resources and summarize internal discussions as he looks for ways to work more efficiently.

Pichai Uses AI Agents to Track Google Updates

On Wednesday, speaking on the Sources podcast, Pichai said keeping up with Google’s daily developments could take him considerable time.

“It could easily take me an hour a day to kind of catch up, what’s happened in the last 24 hours,” Pichai said.

He added, “But now I have agents running which summarize and bring that information to me. I can still go deeper, and I do so often.”

The AI agents help Pichai understand the company’s AI model development, monitor computing resource usage across product areas and follow discussions across internal chat groups without reading every conversation himself.

“Similarly, there are agents with telemetry into our compute usage by product area, efficiency, utilization, and giving me inputs and insights, you know,” he said.

He added, “I think it’s made all of us, you know, be better at what we do.”

Google CEO Says AI Agents Run 24/7

Pichai stressed that humans remain involved in consequential decisions, including determining how computing resources are allocated.

He also highlighted the advantage of AI agents operating continuously in the cloud.

“So because your agents, they’re running in the cloud, they’re running 24/7, they have your context, and so they can pick up things where you left off,” Pichai said.

He added that agents can continue working on ongoing tasks while he applies his attention to other problems.

Google Prioritized AI Research

On Tuesday, Pichai said Google had sacrificed potential Cloud revenue to prioritize AI research, despite Google Cloud revenue surging 82% to $24.8 billion.

He called providing computing power to Google DeepMind "non-negotiable" and warned that meeting customer demand for computing capacity in 2027 would be "incredibly difficult to do."

Sergey Brin Pushes Google to Speed Up Gemini

Alphabet co-founder Sergey Brin had taken a bigger role in Google’s Gemini AI development as Anthropic and OpenAI gained ground.

Despite holding no formal executive role, Brin pushed teams to move faster, with one former employee saying, "Sergey wants to run Gemini like a startup."

He also urged a focus on recursive self-improvement, where AI helped researchers build better AI systems.
