Media mogul David Zaslav is credited with helping guide Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ:WBD) through times of change and tough actions for the media sector. He also helped guide Warner Bros. Discovery through the merger with Skydance Corp (NYSE:SKYD), which closed and helped him receive high compensation.

Zaslav’s 2026 Compensation Nears $800 Million
Leading Warner Bros. since April 2022, Zaslav is no longer part of the combined company now known as Skydance, the combination of Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery.
While he may not be involved in the day-to-day operations moving forward, Zaslav is leaving the combined company with a large cash windfall.
Zaslav received a $606 million final payout as part of the completed merger. This included $381.7 million in compensation for options held by Zaslav, as reported by Variety.
While the final payout is high, it could have been even higher. There were around 15 million options that expired worthless as they had strike prices above the final $31.0167 deal price.
This isn’t the first payment for Zaslav since the deal with Paramount Skydance was first announced. Zaslav sold $114 million in stock in March and $59 million in July. Together, this is 779 million made by Zaslav from selling stock and options this year.
Zaslav has been known to be one of the highest-compensated CEOs in the media sector in recent years.
In 2025, Zaslav received $165 million in compensation, which included $109.6 million from stock options and a $3 million base salary.
What Happens Next
Zaslav is not the only Warner Bros. employee to receive a payout from the combined media company.
In fact, new employee hiring and pay structures set up by Zaslav may have created more wealth for some of the employees at Warner Bros. Discovery, according to a New York Post report.
The Post reports that around 500 employees received over $1 million from the merger and around 1,000 employees got appreciated stock worth around $500,000.
Reports that layoffs are likely to happen for the combined company could put the high price tag of Zaslav’s exit package in the spotlight, as others will not be as fortunate.
Zaslav is now a free agent and it will be interesting to see how much time he takes off before jumping back into a new job.
