Eli Lilly (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>), which makes Mounjaro, one of the leading weight-loss drugs in the United States, beat EPS estimates and also raised its 2024 revenue guidance, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/24/04/38521126/eli-lillys-weight-loss-drug-still-going-strong-boosts-annual-forecast">sending the stock higher.</a> Meanwhile, both McDonald's (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MCD#NYSE">MCD</a>) and Coca-Cola (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KO#NYSE">KO</a>) each reported underwhelming quarters, sending their respective stocks lower. Undergoing weight-loss treatment through expensive medication may also incentivize patients to cut out unnecessary calories like the ones found in soda. 
One market expert, Chris Versace, host of the Thematic Signals podcast, said it's still too early to determine whether weight-loss drugs directly impact McDonald's sales volume. But, Versace points out that markets tend to be a ‘forward-looking animal'. If the adoption of weight-loss drugs continues to grow, the impact on ‘junk food' stocks like McDonald's and Coca-Cola could be more significant. "So it&#8217;s hard to measure, right? So far we haven&#8217;t really seen any results. But as we know, the market tends to be a forward-looking animal," <a href="https://www.thestreet.com/investing/stocks/ozempic-isnt-reason-sell-stocks-pepsico-mcdonalds">Versace said</a>, as reported by TheStreet. U.S. stocks were lower, with the Dow Jones index falling over 100 points on Tuesday.
Shares of Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>) rose sharply during Tuesday's session after the company raised its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/24/04/38521126/eli-lillys-weight-loss-drug-still-going-strong-boosts-annual-forecast">FY24 revenue guidance</a>.
Eli Lilly reported first-quarter revenue of $8.77 billion, up 26% year over year, marginally missing the consensus of $8.92 billion, driven by increases of 16% in volume and 10% due to higher realized prices. Eli Lilly posted an adjusted EPS of $2.58, beating the consensus of $2.46, higher than $1.62 a year ago, according to data from <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a>.
Eli Lilly forecasts fiscal year 2024 sales of $42.4 billion -$43.6 billion versus prior guidance of $40.4 billion-$41.6 billion and consensus of $41.36 billion.
Eli Lilly shares surged 6.6% to $785.51 on Tuesday.

Tuesday,&nbsp;Eli Lilly And Co&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>)&nbsp;reported first-quarter revenue of $8.77 billion, up 26% year over year, marginally missing the consensus of $8.92 billion, driven by&nbsp;increases of&nbsp;16% in volume and 10% due to&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">higher realized prices</a>.

Mounjaro drove higher realized prices in the&nbsp;U.S.&nbsp;as Mounjaro saw net price positively impacted by savings card dynamics compared with Q1 2023.
New Products revenue grew by&nbsp;$1.79 billion&nbsp;to&nbsp;$2.39 billion&nbsp;in Q1 2024, led by Mounjaro (diabetes) and Zepbound (weight loss).&nbsp;
Growth Products revenue increased 2% to&nbsp;$4.66 billion&nbsp;in Q1 2024 as lower Trulicity sales largely offset growth led by Verzenio, Jardiance, Taltz&nbsp;and&nbsp;Emgality.
Mounjaro sales reached $1.81 billion, compared to $568.5 million a year ago.
Verzenio (breast cancer drug)&nbsp;sales&nbsp;increased 40% to&nbsp;$1.05 billion. Diabetes drug Jardiance sales&nbsp;increased 19% to&nbsp;$686.5 million.
Zepbound sales reached $517.4 million since it received FDA approval in November 2023. Trulicity sales fell 26% to&nbsp;$1.5 billion.

Cues From The Last Session:
Stocks closed Monday&#8217;s session on a positive note, although trading was marked by some degree of volatility. The major indices opened the session higher, as the positive momentum from Friday carried over into the new week, with Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) leading from the front. They stayed above the unchanged line for the better part of the morning before reversing course in late afternoon trading.
While apprehension ahead of the week&#8217;s key earnings and data was attributed to the weakness, the stock recovered thereafter to close higher for a second straight session. Market participants also blamed the intraday slide on an increase in the U.S. Treasury&#8217;s June quarter borrowing estimates.
The gains were led by consumer discretionary stocks, while communication services stocks dragged.

Insights From Analysts:
Ahead of the Fed meeting, Wharton Professor Jeremy Siegel, Senior Economist to&nbsp;WisdomTree, said in his weekly commentary, that the market is currently pricing in only slim chances of rate cuts this year. On Wednesday, the economist expects Powell to repeat the rhetoric that the central bank doesn&#8217;t have enough confidence to lower rates.
Siegel expects the press to probe as to whether the Fed was contemplating rate hikes. &#8220;Powell's answer to that may be illuminating,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It is quite possible with two more inflation prints before the June meeting, that the Fed can get enough information to signal imminent cuts. I'm not ruling out a rate cut at the June meeting.&#8221;
Fundstrat expressed confidence in the market recovery taking root. &#8220;Stocks survive &#8216;fragility test&#8217; of April. Roadmap for May more constructive = recovery towards S&amp;P 5,200,&#8221; said the firm in a post on X.

<li>The Labor Department is scheduled to release its employment cost index for the first quarter at 8:30 a.m. EDT. Economists, on average, expect the index to climb 1% quarter-over-quarter, faster than the 0.9% increase in the fourth quarter.</li>
<li>The S&amp;P Case-Shiller and Federal House Finance Agency are due to release the results of their respective house price surveys at 9 a.m. EDT.</li>
