As we look ahead to the unfolding week, it remains to be seen whether the tech earnings deluge can keep the rally&#8217;s momentum going. 
The Week That Was: High-profile Magnificent Seven earnings panned out mostly positively for the market, with Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) the outlier. The social media giant&#8217;s stock fell sharply as traders fretted over the soft second-quarter revenue guidance and the company&#8217;s massive AI investment plans. 
Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) managed to appease the Street despite the double miss as it held out the promise of an expeditious launch of a more affordable EV. 
With the earnings season now halfway through, the percentage of S&amp;P 500 companies reporting positive earnings surprises and the magnitude of earnings surprises were above their 10-year averages, <a href="https://insight.factset.com/sp-500-earnings-season-update-april-26-2024?utm_source=Direct&amp;utm_medium=Email&amp;utm_campaign=FO-04-26-2024&amp;utm_content=httpsinsightfactsetcomsp500earningsseasonupdateapril262024">said </a>FactSet in a report.
The blended first-quarter earnings growth of S&amp;P 500 companies is estimated at 3.5%, up from the 0.6% growth estimated in the week ended April 19, the financial data analytics firm said. If the trend holds, the S&amp;P 500 companies are on track to report earnings growth for the third straight quarter.
Of the 11 S&amp;P sector classes, eight sectors reported year-over-year earnings growth, led by communication services, utilities, IT, and consumer discretionary sectors. On the other hand, healthcare, energy, and materials have reported year-over-year earnings declines.

Look Ahead: The unfolding week will see 175 S&amp;P 500 companies and 6 Dow 30 components releasing their quarterly scorecards. The earnings roster includes two Magnificent Seven companies, namely Apple, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) and Amazon, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), e-commerce retailers, payment processors, restaurants, and energy and REIT companies.
Earnings from Apple and Amazon could be market-moving, given the weighting of these stocks in the S&amp;P 500 Index. Also, Apple is considered a bellwether, given its exposure to consumers. Morgan Stanley&#8217;s Erik Woodring expects Apple to report a slightly beat but guide June quarter revenue down. 
Investors are likely to keep a close eye on performance in China, Apple&#8217;s updated capital return framework, and capital expenditures, the analyst said.
That said, the analyst is positive on the stock ahead of its annual Worldwide Developers&#8217; Conference due on June 10th. &#8220;With Apple&#8217;s biggest WWDC event on June 10th, we&#8217;d buy post-earnings weakness,&#8221; he said.
Amazon will likely continue to report double-digit sales and profit growth in the first quarter, according to Telsey Advisory Group analyst Joseph Feldman. The analyst premised his optimism on the strength of online spending, gains from expanded merchandise and faster fulfillment, and stabilization (and growth) of AWS. 
&#8220;Importantly, we expect [a] greater focus on profits supported by the growth of higher margin categories and services, such as advertising, media, and AWS (partly helped by AI-related upgrades), the redesigned distribution network&#8230;.. and cost savings,&#8221; he said.

Dow Dips Over 100 Points; US Leading Economic Index Falls In January

Fluor Corp&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FLR#NYSE">FLR</a>) reported fourth-quarter fiscal 2023 revenue growth of 3% year-over-year to $3.82 billion,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/02/b37208068/fluor-reports-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-2023-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">missing the consensus of $4.11 billion.</a>
Sales by segment: Energy Solutions $1.42 billion (-19.9% Y/Y), Urban Solutions $1.42 billion (+30% Y/Y), Mission Solutions $646 million (+26.9% Y/Y) and Others $332 million (flat Y/Y).
FLR recorded a total segment profit of $85 million, compared to $174 million a year ago. The margin contracted by 247 bps to 2.2%.
The company reported a net loss attributed to the company of $(21) million, down from net earnings of $9 million a year ago.
Total new awards totaled $7.6 billion, compared to $4.6 billion a year ago. Ending consolidated backlog was $29.4 billion, an increase of 10% YoY.

Adjusted EBITDA rose to $145 million from $136 million, and the margin expanded by 13 bps to 3.8%.
At the end of the quarter, Fluor's cash and marketable securities were $2.5 billion, not including amounts held by NuScale.
Fluor stated that it is not providing forward-looking guidance for U.S. GAAP net earnings or U.S. GAAP earnings per share or a quantitative reconciliation of adjusted EBITDA or adjusted EPS guidance.
However, the company has established an adjusted EBITDA and EPS guidance based on the volume of new awards received over the past two years, early achievement of the 75% reimbursable backlog target, and robust and diverse prospect pipeline.
For 2024, FLR expects Adjusted EBITDA of $600 million to $700 million and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance">adjusted EPS of $2.50 to $3.00 versus $2.84 consensus.</a>
The company anticipates improved cash flow conversion in 2024. The company also reaffirmed its 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance of $800 million to $950 million.

(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WMT#NYSE">WMT</a>) rose after the company agreed to buy VIZIO Holding Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VZIO#NYSE">VZIO</a>) and reported solid quarterly results.
Traders will likely stay cautious ahead of earnings from Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>), due Wednesday, as the recent market run-up has been premised on AI-spending that will justify the stretched valuations of tech stocks. &#8220;Nvidia's earnings announcement this week and its guidance should signal that&nbsp;the AI dominance will continue,&#8221; said fund manager Louis Navellier.&nbsp; 
&#8220;Frankly, with 215.8% forecasted sales growth, plus 387.5% forecasted earnings growth, Nvidia is expected to post spectacular quarterly results and issue positive guidance.&#8221;
Cues From Past Week&#8217;s Trading:
The two inflation reports released last week spooked investors in the week ended Feb. 16, forcing them to revise their odds of a March rate cut. In the process, the major indices, namely the Dow Industrials, the S&amp;P 500 Index, and the Nasdaq Composite snapped their five-week winning run. The only consolidation is that the S&amp;P 500 held the 5,000 level. 
On the other hand, small-cap stocks bucked the downtrend and ended notably higher for the week.

The past week&#8217;s pullback did not deter a bullish analyst, who continues to bet on another year of solid performance for the stock market. 
While the S&amp;P 500 Index gained close to 25% in 2023, it experienced a 7.8% pullback from early February to mid-March amid the regional banking crisis, said Carson Group&#8217;s Ryan Detrick. The broader gauge also saw a 10.2% correction from end-July to Oct. 27, he added.
&#8220;This is normal, even for great yrs to have some scary moments,&#8221; the analyst said.

Upcoming Economic Data:
The holiday-shortened week&#8217;s economic calendar is dominated by Fed speeches and comments by central bank officials that can cause gyrations in the market. The next rate-setting meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee is scheduled for March 19-20 and the central bank officials go into a quiet period between March 9 and 21.
Traders may also focus on the minutes of the January FOMC meeting, the Conference Board&#8217;s leading economic index for January, the weekly jobless claims report, the January existing home sales report and S&amp;P Global&#8217;s flash U.S. manufacturing and service sector readings.
On Monday, the Conference Board is set to release the leading economic index for January at 10 a.m. ET. Economists, on average, expect another down month. The LEI may have dipped 0.3% month-over-month in January, steeper than the 0.1% drop in December.
The Treasury will auction three- and six-month bills at 11:30 a.m. ET and 52-week bills at 1 p.m. ET.

Commodities, Bonds, Other Global Equity Markets:
Crude oil futures fell 1.11% to $77.59 in early European session on Tuesday after the commodity rallied by 3.63% in the week ended Feb. 16. The benchmark 10-year Treasury note slipped 0.018 percentage points at 4.277%. 
The Asian markets ended on a mixed note due to a lack of lead from Wall Street overnight and China&#8217;s central bank&#8217;s move to cut its five-year loan prime rate by 25 basis points to 3.95%. The cut assumes importance as the five-year LPR is used as a reference rate for mortgage rates. The one-year PLR was maintained unchanged at 3.45%.
The Chinese market, which reopened after a weeklong holiday, posted uneasy gains and the Hong Kong market advanced, while the South Korean, Japanese, New Zealand, and Australian markets retreated.
European stocks traded on a lackluster note late morning on Tuesday, with the Euro Stoxx 50 Index down about 0.1%.
