	Monthly Summary</h3>
The IMX moved lower for the fourth month in a row, ending the period down 8.24 percent at 4.79.
The April IMX period started out with volatility in equity markets, and the IMX took another dip lower. Continuing their behavior for the past year, TD Ameritrade clients were net buyers during the period. However, many widely held positions saw their volatility relative to the overall equity market decrease once again, causing a decrease in the overall IMX score. Volatility of the S&amp;P 500, as measured by the Cboe Volatility Index, or VIX, averaged over 20 for the first five days of April before subsiding near the end of the period.

April began with equity market volatility, and all three major equity indices moved lower during the first five business days of the month. The S&amp;P 500 traded lower by 2.2 percent during the first day of April, its worst start ever to a second quarter. Markets rebounded during the last three weeks for the period, with the S&amp;P 500 ending the period up 1.10 percent. The NASDAQ Composite Index and Dow Jones Industrial Average also increased during the period, up 0.80 percent and 0.86 percent, respectively. Market volatility was in part driven by global economic concerns following the Trump administration&#39;s proposed tariffs on $50 billion of goods from China. Following the market selloff early in the period, the S&amp;P 500 traded at the lowest price-to-earnings ratio in nearly two years compared to expected earnings over the next 12 months, although the metric is still higher than historical averages. Later in the period, geopolitical tensions in Asia seemed to ease and some solid corporate earnings helped push equity markets higher.

	Trading</h3>
TD Ameritrade clients were net buyers during the April period, buying some volatile names during earnings season. Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/nflx#NASDAQ">NFLX</a>) was net bought for the third month in a row. The company reported better-than-expected earnings during the month, but traded lower after reports it may purchase a movie theatre chain. For the first time in 2018, AT&amp;T Inc. (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/t#NYSE">T</a>) was net bought as the company traded lower following an earnings miss due to cord-cutting increases. Spotify Technology SA (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/spot#NYSE">SPOT</a>) was also a net buy following the company&#39;s IPO early in the period. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/amd#NASDAQ">AMD</a>), which has seen volatility recently and posted an earnings beat, was net bought. For the fifth month in a row, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/amzn#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) was net bought. The company traded higher during the period on the back of an earnings beat and analyst upgrades. Square Inc. (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/sq#NYSE">SQ</a>), which was off approximately 20 percent from recent highs as the company announced an acquisition of another online company, Weebly, was also a net buy.
Additional popular names bought include General Electric Company (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ge#NYSE">GE</a>), Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/baba#NYSE">BABA</a>), and JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/jpm#NYSE">JPM</a>).
TD Ameritrade clients appeared to take some profits in multiple names during the period. Oil companies were popular sells with ConocoPhillips (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/cop#NYSE">COP</a>), BP&nbsp; PLC (ADR) (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/bp#NYSE">BP</a>), National-Oilwell Varco Inc. (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/nov#NYSE">NOV</a>), and Transocean LTD (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/rig#NYSE">RIG</a>) all net sold. Oil prices traded near three-year highs on higher global demand and possible OPEC-led production cuts. COP and BP both traded at multi-year highs, while NOV and RIG reached 52-week highs, enticing clients to take profits in all four names. Alcoa Corp. (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/aa#NYSE">AA</a>) traded at levels not seen since before the financial crisis following proposed tariffs on steel and aluminum, and was net sold. For the third month in a row, Facebook, Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/fb#NASDAQ">FB</a>) was net sold after CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified before Congress regarding the misuse of user data and a beat on earnings.
Additional names sold include Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/sbux#NASDAQ">SBUX</a>), Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/cmg#NYSE">CMG</a>), and Frontier Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ftr#NASDAQ">FTR</a>).

	Historical Overview</h3>
TD Ameritrade&#39;s Investor Movement Index (IMX) has generally correlated with the S&amp;P 500 as clients react to equity price movements, but the index has gone through uncorrelated periods. Beginning in January 2010, when TD Ameritrade started tracking the IMX, the index rose with equity markets until April 2010, when it peaked at 5.40. In May 2010 investors experienced the &quot;Flash Crash&quot; and the IMX began a sharp downward trend. The IMX didn&#39;t reach 5.00 again until the S&amp;P 500 was well above April 2010 levels.
The index eventually peaked at 5.56 in June 2011. This peak was immediately followed by a plunge in equity markets, and in the IMX, as the media was dominated by the U.S. debt ceiling debate, S&amp;P downgrade of U.S. debt, and European debt concerns. The S&amp;P 500 began to recover in the fall of 2011, but the IMX continued to decline until it reached a new low at the time in January 2012. As the S&amp;P 500 began to sustain an upward trend in early 2012, the IMX started to rise. In 2013, as economic conditions improved and the S&amp;P 500 climbed to record levels, the IMX rose to the high end of its historical range, finishing 2013 at 5.62, and continued to rise in 2014 amid geopolitical tensions related to Ukraine and the Middle East, until seeing slight declines in October and November.
By the middle of 2015, the IMX had seen increases, as equity market volatility had reduced to near historical levels while the market continued its upward trend. As 2015 ended its third quarter, volatility had returned to markets as global economic concerns and speculation around the timing and trajectory of Federal Reserve rate increases seemed to rattle overall equity markets. This uncertainty continued to play a role in the equity markets through the fourth quarter of 2015 and into early 2016. The volatility accompanying this uncertainty abated in the second quarter of 2016 and remained low until late in the third quarter. Just as it had in 2015, the IMX saw increases mid-year during the period of lower volatility. The IMX continued to climb into the fourth quarter reaching 5.83 in October 2016, its highest point in two years. A brief spike in volatility during November, timed around the U.S. presidential election, coincided with a slight pull back in the IMX, which then ended 2016 at the high end of its historical range.
The IMX started 2017 with an upward trend and reaching an all-time high in March, before pausing in April as lower volatility led to a decrease in the IMX. The momentum resumed in May, with the IMX breaching 7.0 for the first time ever in July of 2017. The IMX took another brief pause in September, before following markets higher and breaching 8.0 for the first time ever in November and ending 2017 at an all-time high. Volatility returned to the markets in early 2018, and the IMX decreased for three consecutive months to start the year.

In an era where every startup claims to be disruptive, it&rsquo;s unusual to come across a successful tech platform that asserts exactly the opposite. However, this is the case of <a href="https://lottery.com/">Lottery.com</a>, a lottery technology company that is managing to reimagine the lottery industry without alienating the current industry incumbents and government agencies benefiting from it.
In 2016, U.S. lotteries generated $80 billion in revenue. So, it&rsquo;s pretty safe to say this is a business that works. The thing is, millennials, people aged between 20 and 35, are not playing as much as their parents and grandparents. In fact, only <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2017/02/10/us-lottery-operators-worry-as-fewer-millennials-line-up-to-play.html">one in three</a> millennials nationwide bought a ticket last year. Some state lotteries are seeing even lower sales among that age group. This means that as older generations age out or become economically inactive, the lottery industry could find itself in quite a pickle.
Responding to the industry&rsquo;s need to reach millennials, Lottery.com came up with a way to get traditional lotteries into smartphones, allowing users to play state-sanctioned games though their app. But, this is not an easy mission. Lottery.com is the first app that actually seeks permission from state lottery commissions and state governments. In addition, there&rsquo;s a regulatory issue: Each jurisdiction has its own little quirks and regulations that require controls that must be built into the app.
Despite the difficulties, Lottery.com has already managed to convince several U.S. states to allow the app, and it is on the way to getting a slate of 10&ndash;15 states by the end of this year &mdash; reaching 30&ndash;40 percent of the addressable market.
<h3>Non-Disruptive Technology</h3>
&quot;Our perspective on the lottery industry is that it&#39;s one that cannot be disrupted,&quot; co-founder and CEO Tony DiMatteo told Benzinga. &ldquo;So, we are not here to disrupt the industry, but rather to help advance it.&rdquo;
The way to do this, he explained, is to be fully cooperative with every state Lottery.com enters. &ldquo;We align all of the interests of the stakeholders: states, retailers and everybody that could be affected by our technology. We try to make this a win for everyone, meaning we can increase foot traffic into retail locations, while increasing the Millennial user base.&rdquo;

But, how can a mobile app aimed at people purchasing tickets through their phones drive foot traffic? The upcoming version of the Lottery.com app will include promotions and discounts at retail locations every time someone buys a ticket through the app.
Beyond the technology, Benzinga was particularly interested in the company&rsquo;s large financial backing. The Series A raised reached $17 million and included big names like Fortress Investment Group LLC (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/fig#NYSE">FIG</a>), iHeartMedia Inc (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ihrt#OTC">IHRT</a>) and GateHouse Media, Inc. (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ghseq#OTC">GHSEQ</a>), as well as early supporters of Uber, Twitter Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/twtr#NYSE">TWTR</a>), Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/tsla#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>), Facebook Inc (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/fb#NASDAQ">FB</a>), Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/pypl#NASDAQ">PYPL</a>), and other very successful tech startups. No venture capital money has been taken to date.
Funding is earmarked for national and international expansion. DiMatteo expects to see three to five more countries enter the platform this year. &ldquo;Our long-term goal is to create a sort of global lottery,&rdquo; he said.
<h3>Tighter Regulatory Controls And Addiction Prevention</h3>
Finally, Benzinga asked about addiction prevention policies and the ways in which digitizing the lottery actually arms states with tighter regulatory controls. With age verification and geo-location, the app cuts down dramatically on issues that have plagued the industry such as ticket-cashing fraud, lost tickets and unclaimed winnings, as well as the ability to spot problem behaviors. According to DiMatteo, only 2 percent of lottery players develop an addiction; however, this is still a big problem because the issue tends to affect those who can&rsquo;t afford this kind of habit.
&ldquo;Most addicts are drawn to scratchers, because lower turnaround times tend to generate a larger rush,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;So, we don&rsquo;t allow anybody to buy more than 20 tickets per draw.&rdquo;
Additionally, Lottery.com has developed software that can detect addictive behavior and even flag people using relatives&rsquo; credit cards and identities to continue to play after they are banned from the app. The final piece is the company will open-source its addicts database for any other company operating in the space to get that information and help fight gaming addiction in multiple industries. &ldquo;It has always been our intention to provide a fun and interactive way to play the lottery on your phone and do it in such a way that we maintain the integrity of the industry for both regulators and users,&rdquo; DiMatteo added. &ldquo;When we increase sales that then support education, senior and veteran support, as well as other state initiatives, everyone wins.&rdquo;

Fortress Holders Approve Deal With Softbank

MetLife, Inc. MET has entered into a definitive agreement with Fortress Investment Group LLC FIG to acquire its traditional fixed income asset management business &mdash; Logan Circle Partners, L.P. The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter.
	The deal valuing $250 million will be funded in cash. Per management, the shelled out cash will not deter it from carrying on with its $3 billion share buyback program, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
	The transaction is in line with MetLife&#39;s efforts to grow in business areas that require low capital but provide strong risk-adjusted internal rates of returns and sustainable cash flows. In the same vein, the company is also undergoing the spin-off of its retail life unit named Brighthouse Financial. This business has locked significant capital and carries equity and interest rate risks.
Business restructuring efforts have been taken positively by investors as evident by share price appreciation of 41% compared with the gain of 39% by the Zacks categorized&nbsp; <a href="https://www.zacks.com/stocks/industry-rank/industry/insurance-multi-line-88">Insurance - Multi line</a> industry.

	Following the parting away of Brighthouse Financial and the addition of Logan Circle, MetLife&#39;s Investment Management business would have more than $560 billion in total assets under management.

Fresenius in Talks for Acquisition of Akorn
The Talks:
Akorn, Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/akrx#NASDAQ">AKRX</a>) confirmed a Bloomberg report that the company is in discussions with Fresenius Kabi, a subsidiary of Fresenius SE &amp; Co. KGaA (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/fsnuy#OTC">FSNUY</a>) regarding a potential acquisition. The Boards of Directors of both companies still must approve entry into a formal agreement and there is no assurance a deal will result from the talks.
Akorn closed at $29.77 on Friday, up $4.55.
21st Century Fox Receives European Commission Clearance for Sky Acquisition
The Approval:
Twenty-First Century Fox (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/foxa#NASDAQ">FOXA</a>) has received unconditional European Commission antitrust approval on Friday for its $14.5 billion acquisition of Sky (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/bsybf#OTC">BSYBF</a>). The EC said there were no competition issues, since the Fox and Sky operate in different markets in Europe.
Reuters had reported earlier that approval was imminent.
21st Century Fox closed at $31.07, down $0.05.
Intrawest Resorts to Announce Sale on Monday to KSL Capital Partners-backed Ski Resort Operator
The Rumor:
Intrawest Resorts Holdings Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/snow#NYSE">SNOW</a>) is expected to announce on Monday that it&#39;s being sold to a ski resort operator backed by KSL Capital Partners, according to a report by Reuters. The sale price isn&#39;t known, but is said to be at a premium to Friday&#39;s close.
Fortress Investment Group (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/fig#NYSE">FIG</a>) is Intrawest&#39;s largest investor.
Intrawest Resorts closed at $25.30, down $0.28.
BioTelemetry Launches Tender Offer to Acquire LifeWatch
The Tender Offer:
BioTelemetry, Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/beat#NASDAQ">BEAT</a>) and LifeWatch AG announced Sunday that BioTelemetry will launch a tender offer in Switzerland to acquire all of the outstanding shares of LifeWatch AG. Shareholders will Receive either CHF10.00 in cash and 0.1457 shares of BioTelemetry stock or CHF8.00 in cash and 0.2185 shares of BioTelemetry stock for a total deal value is approximately CHF260 million.
The transaction has been approved by both company&#39;s Boards of Directors.
BioTelemetry closed at $27.30, down $0.10.
