Meet The Woman Charged With Helping Snap Improve Its Discover Section

After all the IPO-related buzz, Snap Inc SNAP means business now. Turning its focus back on fundamentals, the ephemeral photo and video messaging platform has announced a prized poach.

Recode reported Monday Snap has hired former Senior Publisher Relations Manager of Apple Inc.'s AAPL Apple News, Donna Ogier.

Parsing the LinkedIn profile of Ogier, Recode has come to gain cognizance of the changeover. The profile suggests Orier has been Global Publishing Manager at Snap since February.

Re(discover)ing Publisher Partnerships

Recode suggests Ogier will work on Snapchat's Discover section. She would report to David Brinker, who joined the company in October to oversee business development related to Snap's content efforts. Prior to joining Snapchat, Brinker was employed as the President of the New York Post.

Snapchat launched the Discover feature in January 2015 and was seen as the company's thrust to capitalize on the paradigm – content is king. TechCrunch termed the feature as an always-on, daily refreshed channel guide distributing content, with brand advertisements thrown around it.

Snapchat, according to Recode, is finicky about the publishers it will work with. Consequently, many content creators or publishers were rejected in the past. Snap is now forcing its publishers to create exclusive content such as shows, short TV-like episodes.

Recode also reported Snap might seek to license some of this content, just so it can avoid sharing revenues.

Though Ogier's role isn't clear, it's believed she might be liaising with Snapchat's publishing partners, the same role she donned at Apple.
