OMA Reports a 4.9% Increase in May 2013 Passenger Traffic

Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA OMAB, reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 4.9% in May 2013, as compared to May 2012. Domestic traffic increased 4.6%, and international traffic increased 6.7%. Of total May traffic, 97.5% was commercial aviation and 2.5% was general aviation. Domestic traffic increased in nine airports in May, with the most noteworthy increases in Monterrey (+4.4%), Mazatlan (+22.4%), Reynosa (+28.2%), Chihuahua (+7.6%), and Acapulco (+6.6%). Monterrey traffic increased principally on the routes to Toluca and Tijuana. Mazatlan, Reynosa, and Chihuahua increased traffic on their Mexico City routes. Acapulco traffic increased on the Toluca route. The largest traffic reductions were in San Luis Potosí (-12.6%) and Zacatecas (-10.7%). San Luis general aviation traffic decreased, and Zacatecas had a decrease in traffic on the Mexico City route. Volaris started flying the Ciudad Juarez - Mexico City and Ciudad Juarez – Guadalajara routes during May. International traffic increased most significantly in Monterrey (+6.7%), Mazatlan (+25.4%), and Zacatecas (+30.5%). Monterrey and Zacatecas had increases on their Chicago routes. Mazatlan traffic increased on the Phoenix route. The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in May decreased 4.7% as compared to the same month of last year.
