State Street May Introduce New Emerging Markets ETF

State Street's STT State Street Global Advisors, the second-largest U.S. ETF issuer, has filed plans to possibly introduce the SPDR MSCI EM 50 ETF, which would track the MSCI EM 50 Index. The fund would use a sampling strategy, so it is possible not all 50 securities within the index will be held by the ETF. The index is a free float-adjusted market capitalization weighted index. Regarding Brazilian, Indian, Mexican and Russian stocks, only those trading as depositary receipts can be included in the ETF. The index will be rebalanced quarterly. No expense ratio or ticker for the new ETF was disclosed in the filing. At the end of November, SSgA had 104 ETFs with $264.5 billion in assets under management, according to data from the National Stock Exchange.
