Mid-Day Unusual Volume Gainers

Around mid-day on Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is trading moderately higher after a sell-off on Monday. The Dow is 61 points higher, holding above 12,000 at 12,082. The S&P 500 has added 5 points and is below 1,250 at 1,241. The Nasdaq Composite is lagging the Dow and S&P, notching a gain of just 0.14%.

Notable stocks moving higher on unusual volume include Garmin (NASDAQ: GRMN), Urban Outfitters (NASDAQ: URBN), SPS Commerce (NASDAQ: SPSC), Cabot Microelectronics (NASDAQ: CCMP), and tw telecom (NASDAQ: TWTC).

Shares of Garmin (GRMN) have added 1.57% to $38.16. While the move in the stock is not very significant, the name is attracting unusual volume. Around 2.5 million GRMN shares have already traded hands on the session compared to a 3-month daily average of just over 1 million.

Urban Outfitters (NASDAQ: URBN) is up 5.42%, but has been downtrending throughout the session after a sharp gap up at the open. The move is attributable to positive same store sales at the retailer. Volume in URBN is running at 308% of its normal daily volume.

Shares of thinly traded SPS Commerce (NASDAQ: SPSC) are up 2.30% to $25.85. More than 136,000 SPSC shares have already traded hands on the session compared to full day 3-month average volume of under 60,000 in the name.

Cabot Microelectronics (NASDAQ: CCMP) has surged 16.56% to $46.87 on the day. Volume is 897% above normal. The company declared a massive $15 per share special dividend today which is causing the price and volume spike in the name.

tw telecom (NASDAQ: TWTC) has jumped 3.63% during Tuesday's trading session on heavy volume. The move may be attributable to a favorable article at theStreet.com (NASDAQ: TST). Volume in the name is running at almost 3x the daily average.
