Amazon Launches New Publishing Division Focusing on Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy

More books are coming from the maker of the world's leading e-reader. Amazon AMZN, which unveiled an entire fleet of new Kindle e-readers, including a brand-new tablet, has announced that it is launching a new publishing imprint called 47North. According to TechCrunch, the company's name is based on the latitude coordinates of Amazon's hometown – Seattle. However, a quick search on Google GOOG revealed that there is already a Seattle-based 47North in existence. This one specializes in video and film production. It appears to be a small indie company, and though the copyright says 2011, the website has not been updated since September of last year. While it is unlikely that Amazon purposely chose the name of another company, it is an amusing coincidence considering the last controversy, in which Appsfire accused Amazon of copying its logo in promotions for the Kindle Fire.
