During their dialogue, both tech leaders probed each other&#8217;s intentions for expansion. &#8220;I remember him asking me whether we were planning to start something on a global basis, on the global level, go for international expansion. I said no,&#8221; Durov recalled. 
Zuckerberg similarly denied any plans to target Durov's domestic market, yet both moved to expand their respective reaches shortly after the meeting. &#8220;We both ended up doing exactly that in two or three weeks,&#8221; Durov noted.

What to know: After founding VKontakte (VK), <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/01/36751789/russia-laughs-off-cias-attempt-to-recruit-spies-via-social-media-vkontakte-is-much-more-popular-here">a popular Russian social media </a>platform in 2006 and growing it into Europe&#8217;s largest social network, Durov was ousted in 2014 due to disputes Kremlin-linked owners over<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/22/09/29045894/apple-drops-vkontakte-russias-largest-social-media-network-from-app-store"> censorship issues.</a>
However, his journey did not end with VK; he went on to create Telegram, an encrypted messaging app now serving over 900 million monthly active users. Durov&#8217;s ventures continue to influence the tech world, marking him as a formidable counterpart to leaders like Zuckerberg.
Durov has also publicly criticized Meta-owned WhatsApp in the past, calling it a &#8220;surveillance tool&#8221; and warning users about its security risks. In a message on Telegram, he claimed that hackers could potentially access everything on WhatsApp users&#8217; phones. Durov accused WhatsApp of surveilling users for the past 13 years and suggested that its security flaws might be intentionally planted. He urged people to switch to any other messaging app, highlighting his commitment to privacy and security.

This is a 14.29 percent increase over losses of $(0.14) per share from the same period last year. The company reported quarterly sales of $881.80 million which missed the analyst consensus estimate of $1.05 billion by 16.02 percent. This is a 28.71 percent decrease over sales of $1.24 billion the same period last year.

A group of Republican lawmakers has reportedly called for a ban on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/asia/24/05/39061399/chinas-pumping-big-money-not-just-into-chip-sector-but-also-ev-batteries-key-tesla-nio-suppliers-amo">Chinese battery suppliers </a>with connections to Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) and Volkswagen AG (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VWAGY#OTC">VWAGY</a>) over allegations of using forced labor.
What Happened: The lawmakers have urged the Biden administration to add Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) and Gotion High-Tech to the import ban list under the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/chinese-battery-suppliers-tied-to-ford-vw-should-be-banned-gop-lawmakers-say-bb12d98f">reported</a>.
CATL is the world&#8217;s largest electric car battery manufacturer and a partner of Ford, while Gotion is a battery company partially owned by Volkswagen. The Republican lawmakers have accused these companies of using forced labor in their supply chains.
The lawmakers, including Rep. John Moolenaar, Rep. Mark Green, and Sen. Marco Rubio, have sent letters to the Department of Homeland Security, calling for the immediate addition of CATL and Gotion to the entity list under the Act. 
CATL has reportedly denied the allegations. CATL stated that it is committed to maintaining a responsible supply chain, while Gotion, Ford, and Volkswagen did not respond to requests for comment from WSJ.
New Tariffs On EVs From China:&nbsp;In May, President&nbsp;Joe Biden&nbsp;on Tuesday <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/05/39006664/elon-musk-slams-biden-administration-over-100-tariffs-on-chinese-ev-imports-things-that-distort-the">hiked tariffs </a>on an array of Chinese imports including EV batteries, steel and aluminum, and solar products. The government also imposed a 100% tariff on electric vehicles made in China, quadrupling it from the previous 25%.
Biden administration further implemented a 25% tariff on electric vehicle batteries from China and a 25% tariff on critical minerals that go into making these EV batteries.
"Because we&#8217;re not going to let China flood our market, making it impossible for American automakers — automobile — auto manufacturers to compete fairly," President&nbsp;Joe Biden&nbsp;said about the decision. "Folks, look, I&#8217;m determined that the future of the electric vehicles will be made in America by union workers.&nbsp;Period."

Video game retailer GameStop Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GME#NYSE">GME</a>) continued its rally in premarket trading on Friday, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/06/39213778/gamestop-stock-surges-as-roaring-kitty-launches-video-countdown-what-investors-should-know" rel="noreferrer noopener">carrying momentum from</a> the previous session.
The surge began Wednesday afternoon after Keith Gill, also known as Roaring Kitty, scheduled a livestream on his YouTube channel for Friday at noon EDT. Traders widely anticipate the meme stock enthusiast will discuss his investment thesis behind the massive GameStop stock purchase he disclosed earlier this month.
In a recent update on Reddit, Gill showed he continues to hold the 5 million shares and 120,000 June 21 $20 call options.
Including the call options, the value of Gill&#8217;s GameStop stake reached an estimated $557.05 million, bolstered by a $250.4 million surge on Thursday alone.
Despite skepticism surrounding the legitimacy of Gill&#8217;s holdings, retail investors are apparently buying into the stock, seemingly unfazed by GameStop&#8217;s declining fundamentals.
Premarket trading saw the stock climb 33.88% to $62.35, according to <a target="_blank" href="https://benzinga.grsm.io/register174" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro data.</a>
