Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) has kicked up a stir on social media with her recent controversial posts by saying that the New York earthquake and the upcoming eclipse are divine messages urging America to "repent."

What Happened: Greene took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to share her views on the recent natural occurrences.

She implied that these events are signs from God, urging the nation to seek repentance.

“God is sending America strong signs to tell us to repent. Earthquakes and eclipses and many more things to come," she warned.

"I pray that our country listens."

God is sending America strong signs to tell us to repent.

Earthquakes and eclipses and many more things to come.

I pray that our country listens. 🙏

Her post sparked a flurry of responses on social media, with some users suggesting that the earthquake’s epicenter being near former President Donald Trump’s golf course could carry a different message.

Others, including former Congressman Adam Kinzinger, offered scientific explanations for the natural phenomena.

Fun fact. There are about 3 solar eclipses worldwide per year, and many earthquakes. Both events were predetermined at the creation of the universe.

The solar eclipse is not a sign. It's just a really cool show, if the clouds cooperate

One user even linked the weather conditions to Greene’s past controversial statements, while another user explained what causes earthquakes and asked Greene if she needed any more "4th grade science lessons."

Earthquakes are caused by the shifting of tectonic plates, not because God is angry about gay marriage or whatever.

Why It Matters: Greene’s tweet comes at a time when she has been making headlines for her controversial statements.

Earlier in March, she accused Democrats of plotting to ban TikTok for election interference.

She also decried Trump’s NY fraud case as a “Biden-directed hoax” and claimed to have proof that votes for Trump in 2020 were "lost in the mail."

Her recent tweet has added to the ongoing debate about her controversial statements and their impact on her political career.
