A Preview For Two Hot Tech Earnings Calls To Watch On Thursday

  • Cisco Systems, Inc. CSCO and Applied Materials, Inc. AMAT will announce their quarterly financial results after the market closes on Thursday.
  • Both companies are expected to deliver very small year-over-year increases in earnings.
  • Let’s take a look at projections for both these tech companies.

Cisco Systems

Cisco will report its first quarter (fiscal 2016) financial results on Thursday afternoon. According to Estimize, the Street is modeling a 3.7 percent year-over-year surge in earnings from $0.54 per share last year, to $0.56 per share in the current quarter.

Revenue is also expected to rise slightly, from $12.245 billion a year ago, to $12.636 in the fiscal first quarter of 2016.

The Street’s estimate is also in line with management’s guidance, which called for earnings in the range of $0.55 to $0.57 per share, and revenue between $12.49 billion and $12.735 billion.

A couple of things should be noted from the chart above. In the first place, that the current estimates imply a decline from last quarter’s earnings of $0.59 per share. In the second place, that Cisco has tended to beat estimates over the past couple of years.

Applied Materials

For its part, Applied Materials is reporting its fourth quarter financial results on Thursday afternoon. For the period, the Street is projecting consensus earnings of $0.28 per share on revenue of $2.389 billion, while the crowd anticipates earnings of $0.29 per share on sales of $2.392 billion. Management guided for earnings between $0.27 and $0.31 per share.

Once again, these estimates imply a small decline from last quarter’s EPS of $0.33, but an increase from the earnings of $0.27 per share reported a year ago.
