Report: All Chicago Police Officers To Be Equipped With Tasers As Part Of 'De-Escalation Tactics'

Shares of TASER International, Inc. TASR surged higher by nearly 4 percent Wednesday morning following reports that Chicago's Mayor Rahm Emanuel will announce a major overhaul to the city's police department -- including a new requirement that all officers be equipped with a Taser. According to NBC Chicago, Rahm and the city's Interim Police Superintendent John Escalante will host a press conference at 2pm on Wednesday. The publication added the conference "centers around instilling into officers de-escalation tactics." Under the new plan, every officer that responds to a service call will be required to carry a Taser device. NBC Chicago added that more than 700 Tasers will be added to the Chicago Police Department -- more than twice the current amount.
